If anyone here is going to be in NYC this weekend or Boston next week for
any of the shows and wants to hang out, let me know! I'm going to NYC by
myself and would love to have some company of fellow U2 fans. I'm leaving
this afternoon so call me on my cell if you want to hang.

Okay ... well, I was asleep at the wheel and did not realize that U2 added
the second show in Miami.
I have two GA's to the 11/13 show, and would be willing to swap them for the
11/14 show, although, I would PREFER to swap one for one so I can go to both.
11/14 is my birthday, and I was very fortunate enough to see them at Joe
Robbie on 11/14/97 for Pop Mart, and would like to see them on my birthday
again.
Please let me know if you would feel sorry for me, and be willing to make
this trade!
Copy of Birth Record and 11/13 tickets available upon request. ;-)
Thanks!
Shannon
ps ... sorry if you get this 300 times ... I really do hate that there are
so many freakin U2 lists.

Anyone here going to any of the East Coast shows? So
far I have tickets for the 5/24 and 5/26 Boston shows
and the Hartford show in December. I am going to try
to get tickets to other shows as well. If anyone here
is going let me know, I would love to meet up!

Sounds like it was an awesome experience! I think we
met briefly during the Elevation tour. I was hanging
with Inca (Anthony, from Hawaii). Are you fairly
tall?

I'm in decompression. Not much computer exposure today. Not quite
rational or coherent yet.
So watching TV is the perfect pastime for the day.
Watching a special on the history of Corvettes and Mustangs.
They feature a married couple who own multiple 'Vettes. They said the
passion fueled the obsession.
Sounds familiar.
I REALLY like the '05 Mustangs. WHEN I win the Lotto (like yesterday
WASN'T the fleeking Lotto!), I want a new Mustang. AND a new Corvette.
What the hell: new cars all around!
Anyway, I eventually put together the U2 connection. Ya know - Fast
Cars. It was the passion/obsession thing that made the Vertiginous
cloud of fragmentation part enough to make the connection.
You've seen last night's dress-rehearsal set list by now, if you're
gonna follow this one closely. There are NO spoilers in THIS post,
however. I'll do that later maybe. This is going a different
direction.
It seems SUCH a casual thing to encounter a member of the band.
Especially in LA LA. I only like about 2% of the L.A. U2 "fans". And
most of THEM drive in from outside the city.
In 20+ years, I haven't met any member of the band or their crew or
management. Until a few years ago, I wouldn't have recognized even Paul
McG, much less their families or friends. Such is the internet. I also
don't really care. I'm an obsessive fan, I freely admit, but my
obsession lies in the music and what that music has done for/to me and
my soul. The rest is sorta like collateral damage, if you get my
meaning.
Like my brain today. Damaged by vertiginous elevation. I had to slip
that word in again. It could return yet again.
For I got to shake the hand of the B-Man. Holy Shiznit! I was, and
still AM, totally blown out. It's hard to convey the feeling when you
meet one of your Icons. Not an idol. Not a hero. Those mean something
totally different. I met one of the humans who's art and life have
touched me and changed me in the most profound of ways. It transcends
fandom. It transcends idolatry. It transcends heroism.
It's even more essential. It's a soul thing. And there was nothing
casual about it to me.
Does that make me a freak? COOL!
And last night's free concert was one of the highlights of MY year, to
be certain. But it was the sprinkles on the ice cream cone.
A unique experience. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Hell YES!
And I'm blessed, truly BLESSED, to have been among those few folk. And
very, very grateful to the Boys for making it happen.
THANKS GUYS! THANKS to all the crew, too! And all the cops, firemen,
security and maintenance folks that helped make it possible, too. It
took every single one of 'em to pull it off. I cannot thank them all
enough. I tried when we were there, though. I thanked everybody I saw
. . .
But it was still just the frosting on the cake.
'Coz I shook the hand of the B-Man!

Like most people here, tickets were gone after 5 minutes and waking up

anyone going to the show's in LA or anaheim? Thinking about trying to find a

Glad to hear you got tickets, sorry they weren't GA's, but you may be able
to find a trade or something down the line.
I was able through some friends to get tickets to both Dublin shows! With
no Internet at home, and my boss probably wouldn't think it was very
productive of me to hunt for tickets on the clock, I am so glad that I have
friends
who can get my back!
Anyone else going to be in Dublin?

Well, I was able to get tickets for the 5/24 and 5/26 Boston show.
Unfortunately none of them are GA and I was not aqble to get tickets for any of
the other nearby shows (NJ or NY). I may show up for the third Boston show
and the NY show and try to get tickets the day of the show at the box office or
at the very least hang out to try to meet the band and other fans. Anyone else
here going to any of these shows?

Right now ... I'll be no where. Sorry, call me a snob and stuff, but I want
GA seats. I'll eventually get them, but school every weekend in April
certainly dictates what I want to do v. what I CAN do.
It sucks too, cause for me, money is not so much an issue. I just don't
have all the time I had last tour.
Anyway ... as soon as I know where I am going, I'll give a shout, cause I
would really like to meet some of y'all.

We should try to meet up at the shows and follow through with the flag idea
we discussed a few months ago (i.e., somehow meshing a US, Irish, and
Rainbow flag). I was hoping to go to several of the east coast shows but due
to the price of the tickets and recent life circumstances that have cost me a
ton
of money I may only make it to a couple of shows. I did get a couple of tickets
to the second Boston show but I may try to also get tickets to the MSG show
and possibly the first Boston show. Where is everyone else going to be?

Tour To Kick off March, Tickets January
U2 will begin a ten month world tour on March 1st in the US, manager
Paul McGuinness has told U2.Com.
The band are set to play 115 shows beginning in Florida in the Spring,
reaching Europe in June, heading back to North America in the Autumn
before finishing up in Japan and Australia in November and December.
In an interview with U2.Com, Paul McGuinness revealed that two different
productions were underway for the tour as it would open indoors in the
US and then play outdoors through the summer in Europe. ‘Willie Williams
and Mark Fisher are already at work on designing the shows.’
Some dates and venues are still being finalized - no official
announcement will be made until the New Year .
McGuinness said he had had no doubt that ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic
Bomb’ was going to be one of the bands most popular records – not only
is ‘Vertigo’ a worldwide hit but the advance orders for the new album
outstripped those of ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’, which went on to
sell more than 10m copies to date.
Still, on the day of the US release, there was no harm in judging first
hand if the initial industry signs would be borne out by popular
interest .
‘When we were on the truck making the video in New York, - which was a
bit scary at times, with so many fans following us - it was the day of
the American release, and you could tell as we passed the retailers that
people were buying the record.’
At the end of filming, after the free concert under Brooklyn Bridge,
McGuinness had a celebratory cocktail with Doug Morris, Chairman & CEO
of Universal Music Group and Jimmy Iovine who heads up Interscope.
‘We thought we’d see how the album was going,’ he said. ‘So we popped
down to Sam Goody’s music store by Radio City and when we went in, there
was only one copy left – so I bought it!
‘They told us they’d been re-ordering it all day.’
Next the threesome walked down to Times Square to the Virgin store. ‘The
racks were being filled and emptied as we watched – they were even
selling imported vinyl copies.’
But all of this was no great surprise to the man who has been managing
U2 for more than a quarter of a century – they do know how to kick off
an album release in style. The free gig was a great idea he said, and
the collaboration with iTunes on ‘Vertigo’ had reminded the public in no
uncertain terms that U2 were back. That said - they take nothing for
granted.
‘Every time a new record comes out, I say that we have to break the band
again.’
As for the 2005 tour, he predicts it will be as exciting as ever – some
of the new songs are just begging for live performance. While the exact
tour itinerary should be announced in the New Year, with tickets on sale
later in January, members of U2.Com will get a window of opportunity
ahead of everyone else to buy tickets of their choice at every venue.

U2.Com Getting Up To Speed ...
Five days on, launch issues with the new U2.Com are being resolved,
speed and functionality is picking up.
Our apologies to those of you who have faced problems with the site to
date. Some of the issues were out of our hands - like power outtages in
the US at the weekend which shut down servers on a number of sites
including our own.
Others have been technical issues which we have been working to rectify
in the last few days and through several nights.
Many of you have been trying to take out paid membership to the
Subscription area of the new site. While there have been no problems for
some, others have found the process a frustration and understandably
given up! Again, our apologies. We have now introduced a simpler, faster
'U2.Com subscription' process.
Thanks to those of you who have mailed us following the launch of our
new site an even mix of praise for the new look and features (too
kind!) and advice (to put it mildly!) about improving functionality.
Every e-mail is read, every problem raised is addressed, we hope you are
finding the service improving daily.
While we have been concentrating on getting technical issues resolved
this week, in the coming weeks we have a range of exclusive interviews,
news developments and media specials ready to put online watch this
space!
Zootopia, our interactive fan area, is proving as busy as ever - please
remember to keep your comments relevant to the section you are in and
keep the discussion clean and fun so that all contributors can take part
in a friendly environment. (Please remind anyone being abusive that they
will be banned if they persist, and not allowed to resubscribe.)

U2 BREAK NEW YORK LAW
New York officials have refused to punish U2 for illegally driving a
flat-bed truck through the city's streets - to thank them for bravely
performing in Manhattan immediately after September 11 (01).
The Irish band traveled Manhattan's roads last month (NOV04) to promote
their latest album HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB and managed to escape
the wrath of the legal clause that bans such public displays - because
MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG remains thrilled U2 played in a grieving city
while many groups were axing their tours.
Frontman BONO says, "Everybody cancelled their tours after 9/11 and we
didn't. We were the first band to play in New York after 9/11, and that
went down well in the Big Apple.
"We should have been shut down by the authorities. But Mayor Bloomberg
understood what we meant to the city and chose to turn a blind eye."

Thanks, man. I got a huge laugh out of the too-high/paranoid thing!
Unfortunately, I'm NOT high!
When you put the 10-cents-a-day perspective on it, the picture changes.
I just think that 40 bucks is awfully pricey (even with the Prop
discount of 50%) for a YEARLY membership. 20 bucks (10 with Prop
discount) is fine. But what do I know about running a fan club for a
Rock Band?
Also - I'm not usually given to freaking out. I usually try to keep the
cool head when everyone ELSE freaks. Remember the panic after the
pre-sale for tickets to the last tour? Pandemonium. And I hear the
"sellout/last album/farewell tour" crap every new album since "Rattle
and Hum". I never pay attention to those type of nay-sayers. And I
respect EVERYONE's opinion, whether I agree with it or not.
As for eBay, CAN the band stop it? That's a good question. I don't
have any answer short of offering up bootlegs for the cost of shipping.
Instead, I make sure that every U2 fan I know can have a copy of any
bootleg I have.
I'm usually not one to say ANYTHING negative about U2. I love it all,
just about. They can do no wrong. Don't misunderstand me, I know they
have to use toilet paper just like everyone else, and that they are just
4 guys possessed of amazing talent and showmanship. The music is what
matters most. And that has never failed me. I tend to celebrate by
being goofy to the point of ridiculousness.
Anyway, just a bit of a crisis in confidence. As soon as I wrote it
out, it felt all better. I'm sure that their finely-honed business
sense is intact. Perhaps all the posturing IS just some legal
functionary justifying his/her existence. THAT is something I didn't
think about.
So thanks for serving as a voice of reason. Perhaps I was just
suffering a touch of vertigo. Hahahaha.

DAMN! For the first time in my life, I think, I'm actually irritated
with my Band.
I have ALWAYS trusted them to do right by us fans, and I'm still
clinging to that notion, but this whole 40 dollar thing is confusing. I
don't understand it and that irritates me.
Also, then, there's the action taken by the Record Company. They sent
emails to the prominent U2 fansites and demanded the removal of ALL U2
lyrics from their sites. This one caused me mixed feelings. First off
- We don't need to look up lyrics on the net, they're usually included
with the album or at least available on U2.com. Next, I chuckled a bit
when I imagined some certain Holier-Than-Thou-Better-Than-You web
managers experiencing Sphincter-Factor-10 in their attempts to remove a
lot of web content. The thought that they might be fretting over
possible legal action, or at the very least earned a bad mark with the
Band, has been oft entertained and quite entertaining. Hehhehheh. Am I
a bad person for this?
But, still - why? Is it an attempt to curb the bootlegging of the new
album? Or at least to make it more difficult to get the lyrics if you
didn't buy the album? Does it have something to do with publishing
rights? After all, it IS copyrighted written material.
But why bother the fansites? They aren't making any money from the
band, unlike eBay who makes money every time a bootlegger sells a CD or
DVD. eBay says they don't allow it, but just try searching U2 . . .
There is a rumor circulating that the Boys are going to make live
concerts available to fans through iTunes. If this is so, then live
recordings become commercially available product and not eligible for
trading. Are they still going to unofficially "OK" taping and
photographing concerts? Do they even know what's going on here?
And then there's the really BIG question: Is all of this a way of
cashing in to the max before disbanding? THE $64,000 Question. After
all, 40 bucks a year is quite a hefty fee, unless you don't expect to
last more than that . . .
It's perplexing and confusing and contrary to what I thought U2 is all
about. Again, I'm going to remember that they have NEVER let me down.
Just like with the whole debacle with the HBO producers and the crowd in
Boston for ELEVATION. The Band didn't know (so I've been led to
believe) that they were selecting people who would look good on camera
to get in before others. The Band hires promoters to organize a tour
and they have little to do with the day to day details, and NOTHING to
do with decisions made by producers from HBO, NBC, whoever . . .
That idea is a whole lot better than that they don't care at all, or
(worse yet) that they HAVE sold out. Words that I never thought I'd
attach to U2.
Help me through this one. I need a ray of rational thought to strike
down this small vortex of negativity. It has NOTHING whatsoever to do
with my opinion of the quality or meaning of the music, so why does it
bother me?
I don't understand what's up, and that irritates me.

Anyone hear anything about the "secret" gig in New York?
Nothing has popped up yet on the sharing sites, but I didn't expect
anything yet. I AM hoping to be downloading vids of tonight's SNL
performance by the time they broadcast it here on the Left Coast . . .
WOO HOO!!!!!!
If they hit the stage at Midnight (you know - when the day begins) EST,
then we just gotta wait a mere 3 hours and 15 min. (as of this writing)
A drop in the bucket when compared to those epic waits in the GA line
for ELEVATION. My longest wait was 13 hours.
Worth every second of it, too.

-------------------------------------
SYLLABICATION: Yah·weh
PRONUNCIATION: yah way
VARIANT FORMS: also Yah·veh (-v, -v) or Jah·veh ( yäv, -v) or Jah·weh (
yäw, -w)
NOUN: A name for God assumed by modern scholars to be a convention for
pronouncing the Tetragrammaton.
Etymology:
I. 1. Yahweh, from Hebrew yahweh, assumed ancient pronunciation of the
name of the God of Israel, perhaps meaning “he brings into existence,”
causative derived stem of hwâ, hyâ, to be.
2. Jehovah, modern mispronunciation (since the 16th century a.d.) of
Yahweh, in which the Hebrew consonants Y(J)-H-W(V)-H were pronounced
with the vowels of the Hebrew word dny (see d), which were added to the
Hebrew consonantal text of the Bible to indicate that the latter word
was to be read instead of the divine name.
II. Various short forms of Hebrew yahweh (see I above), found mostly in
personal names.
1. Jah, from Hebrew yh, short for yahweh, Yahweh, also appearing in the
following personal names:
a. Jedidiah, from Hebrew ydîdyh, beloved of Yahweh (see dwd);
b. Matthew, from Hebrew mattayyh (< *mattan-yh), gift of Yahweh;
c. Nehemiah, from Hebrew nemyh, Yahweh comforted;
d. Obadiah, from Hebrew cbadyh, servant of Yahweh;
e. Tobit, from Hebrew ôbyh, my good (is) Yahweh;
f. Uriah, from Hebrew ûrîyh, my light (is) Yahweh (ûrî, my light; see
wr);
g. Zechariah, from Hebrew zkaryh, Yahweh has remembered;
h. Zephaniah, from Hebrew panyh, Yahweh has hidden, Yahweh has
treasured.
2.
a. Hezekiah, from Hebrew izqîyh(û), my strength (is) Yahweh (see zq);
b. Isaiah, from Hebrew yacyhû, salvation of Yahweh;
c. Jeremiah, jeremiad, from Hebrew yirmyhû, Yahweh has established;
d. Elijah, from Hebrew lîyhû, my God (is) Yahweh (see l). a–d all from
Hebrew yhû, short form of yahweh, Yahweh.
3.
a. Joab, from Hebrew yôb, Yahweh (is) father (see b);
b. Joel, from Hebrew yôl, Yahweh (is) God;
c. John, from Hebrew yônn, Yahweh has been gracious;
d. Jonathan, from Hebrew yôntn, Yahweh has given (see ntn).
a–d all from Hebrew yô, short form of yahweh, Yahweh.
4.
a. Jehoshaphat, from Hebrew yhôp, Yahweh has judged (p, he has judged;
see p);
b. (i) Joshua, from yhôûac, Yahweh (is) salvation (*ûac, salvation; see
wc); (ii) Jesus, from Hebrew yûac, shortening of yhôûac, Joshua (see
above).
Both a and b from yhô, short form of yahweh, Yahweh.
