BANDS FOR DEBT RELIEF TO PERFORM AT
NEW YORK’S KNITTING FACTORY
ON MAY 26TH. 7PM
Five Bands and an MTV VJ to Boost Bono’s DATA Global Debt Relief
Effort
NEW YORK, NY, May 3 -- Five indie bands will perform at the
Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St.) on May 26th in New York’s
first concert for global debt relief. Performers will include
Brighton, Harvest of Souls, Truth, Vortex and a very special
guest to be named at a later date. MTV Australia’s VJ personality
Shorty Brown will MC the concert. Show time is 7 PM, tickets
are $15 in advance from TicketWeb.com and $20 at the door.
This concert will promote awareness of global debt relief and
gather signatures for online petition campaigns. Debt relief is
a crucial issue for eliminating AIDS and poverty in the developing
world. Today, more than 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa,
nearly half the population, live on less than $1 a day, according
to the World Bank. This number is expected to grow to 345 million
by 2015. Yet this same region must spend $14.5 billion dollars
each year to repay loan debts from the world’s richest countries,
the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund*.

The event kicks off plans to build a nationwide campaign by
BANDS FOR DEBT RELIEF that will use concerts, the Internet,
and other grass-roots programs to collect signatures for online
petition campaigns hosted on the Web site of data.org. We
extend this invitation to the general public and the media to
attend the May 26th event, to be held at the main stage of the
Knitting Factory, NYC.
