Ian, I was thrilled with the 2004 Final Tour DVD. It's rare that a day goes by that I don't play it. I prefer Cliff Hall on keyboard to Warren Bennett. Cliff seems to play with more feeling.
I had the pleasure of meeting both Cliff and Bruce in Canada in 2006 @ Shadowmania.

Our group does instrumental versions of several Cliff Richard toons: Devil Woman, I Could Easily Fall, Young Ones, etc.

We're currently playing 50/50 Ventures/Shads stuff.

There's the key, Michel: "By my ears."

The session sheet says otherwise. And yes, It's Hal on A Taste Of Honey, per the session sheet. How come you believe one and not the other???

Besides the Reverend's solution, you're allowed 5 changes of region on a computer DVD player, the video (PAL) on DVD is not a problem (even on a US player, although some may show some banding). I use AnyDVD so region is not a problem at all. Of course, it's viewable only thru the computer unless you burn a region-free DVD...I found one of my favorite British series on Region 2, from Australia, and was very pleased with the conversion.

It' s very strange that so many drummers accalim that" It's me playing on the Lonely Bull original recording session. They have nothing to prove Specially Mel and Hal!!!.

By my ears, I can confirm that it's really Hal Blaine on "A Taste of honey".His bass drum and snare technic is there. Same for Mel on "The Lonely Bull" The Mel snare attack and way the way Mel sticks knocking and his snare sound in that time period  is unmissable, recording sheets or not. You will not show an old monkey like me to put is tungue out....lololololl.

That's really something, Dave. I still have my interview with Hal Blaine on a cassette in which he states that he definitely played drums on it, as he and Herb were such good friends. He seems to have a clear memory and he didn't impress me as someone who would b.s. about the past.

The first page of Hal's Wrecking Crew book contains a quote of praise from Alpert, but the reference is to "A Taste of Honey."

Of course, the main issue is that everyone should treat themselves to this "last of its kind" DVD. There will never be another tour with either the Shads or Cliff, though there will possibly be the odd 0ne-ff...or so it says on the DVD.

Whatever, Sir...but this is how we Brits cope with DVDs from the Colonies!!! ;))
Les <><

Of course, the main issue is that everyone should treat themselves to this "last of its kind" DVD. There will never be another tour with either the Shads or Cliff, though there will possibly be the odd 0ne-ff...or so it says on the DVD.

They use the PAL system. When I lived there we had no probs playing VHS tapes
made/bought in the UK. So in this case its the broadcast system that is
significant it seems not the region code, Where things did not work is when you
used a UK sourced video player hooked up to an Oz sourced TV. Then things did
not work. I think Oz is Region 1 the UK region 2.

I have altered all my DVD players to player all countries...all that is needed is a number which you enter using your remote control. I got the number off the internet but am not sure just where now (that's helpful, Les!). I am sure one of us UFers will know...

Hi from Brian, I think you might find the Shads DVD will play in Oz & NZ. They use the PAL system. When I lived there we had no probs playing VHS tapes made/bought in the UK. So in this case its the broadcast system that is significant it seems not the region code, Where things did not work is when you used a UK sourced video player hooked up to an Oz sourced TV. Then things did not work. I think Oz is Region 1 the UK region 2.

I did read somewhere that steps are in place to frustrate this crossing of zone boundaries, by the film producers though.

Regards & God Bless

Brian

They can all be "converted" but that's probablematic as well.
I'd rather pay a little more, buy from Leo's Den, and not have to worry about it.

It's dumb the DVD is limited to Europe because they're touring SA, NZ, AU and the DVD won't play in those countries.

Thanks Marty my daughter took those for me a week or so .They were transfered to CD by a friend who is an audiophile, you would swear they were cd's you bought in a store! My friend and i worked together selling high end home audio together. He has amazing demos he would make from quadraphonic records he bought years ago. I myself have some decent equipment to transfer my records to cd.

Those are excellent pictures. The guy selling the pirate CD's claims he has permission from "a U.K. fanclub". For one thing, it's not up to fanclubs to authorize the copying and selling of copyrighted material owned by EMI. But the guy has been very successful. Apparently there are a lot of 50-somethings out there who want to learn the guitar in their retirement years and want that ol' Ventures set they remember. I've toyed with the idea of selling the same exact package at less than half of what this guy is charging. I think he is using a CD-R I made years ago of the SFM Booklet.

Tom,
You are referring to Mel's "Dynamics" from 1973.
The Magics were a room full of nameless studio musicians who backed Mel on his 1965 LP (and a couple of singles from it).

Hey Ian,
I thought of you yesterday a couple of times while I was at our local Legion
hall for the Veterans Remembrance Day events. After a stirring performance by
our local pipe & drum band, my group played an hour of related songs as a
prelude to a fine roast beef dinner. One song we learned for this was Paul
McCartney's "Mull of Kintyre" and I wondered if you had ever been there. ?

Ian, I was thrilled with the 2004 Final Tour DVD. It's rare that a day goes by
that I don't play it. I prefer Cliff Hall on keyboard to Warren Bennett. Cliff
seems to play with more feeling.
I had the pleasure of meeting both Cliff and Bruce in Canada in 2006 @
Shadowmania.

Our group does instrumental versions of several Cliff Richard toons: Devil
Woman, I Could Easily Fall, Young Ones, etc.

We're currently playing 50/50 Ventures/Shads stuff.

I'll second that emotion Brother Ian! A fabulous show in every way, and the DVD is an absolute must if you like guitars. The CD and the various EPs and singles were good, but maybe a little polite...but the DVD kicks ass! Trust me, I'm a vicar!!!
