Fur and Feather (http://www.furandfeather.org) animal shelter (the
only animal shelter in all of Catron County, New Mexico- where I
live) recently rescued Ella, a three-legged dog now down to only two
working legs.

Ella is a very affectionate female shephard mix who got hit by a car
four years ago, resulting in a broken leg. She lived in a poverty-
stricken abusive home, and her owner would not even take Ella to the
vet. Luckily her owner's boyfriend was responsible and took her to
the vet where her leg had to be amputated. He also paid for her to
get spayed.

Fur and Feather first heard about Ella little more than a week ago
when concerned citizens informed them that Ella had again been hit by
a car and was limping around on only two legs.

Ella's owner had again refused to take her to the vet, and would not
turn Ella over to the shelter. With the help of the Catron County
Sherriff (and the threat of animal cruelty charges) Ella's owner
turned her over to the care of Fur and Feather.

Ella's leg was so badly broken that she needed the help of
specialty veterinarian surgeons in Albuquerque. Her surgery was
completed yesterday, Friday April 4. Ella's injury was much older
than what had been told to Fur and Feather. Instead of a week or two
old, it was more like a month as indicated by all the scar tissue.

Ella will need physical therapy, and just the cost of her surgery is
more than Fur and Feather can cover. Please help Ella get the care
she needs and donate to Fur and Feather. They are the only shelter
in the county, and they get very little community support since it's
a poverty-stricken area.
