BRATTLEBORO, VT, August 9 - We have had a problem with frequent
late-in-the-week thunder storms that don't seem to want to quit, along
with the bulk of our news e-mails arriving late. Bad combination. I
solved this problem in the obvious way: I got up for the day,
Saturday, before 11 P.M. on Friday. Meanwhile, the date 8/8/08 is
supposed to be lucky; and I think I get two such days, having started
today yesterday.

This has not been one of our busier weeks, and the following is all
we've got.

SETH GLIER
"The Trouble With People" CD

"New Record Available This Fall

<> "We are very excited to announce that Seth Glier's new record, 'The
Trouble With People, is finished. The record, which features twelve
new songs, was produced by Seth Glier and his long time
friend/guitarist Ryan Hommel. Together, Seth and Ryan locked
themselves in a home studio for three months and arranged, engineered,
and recorded the songs in complete solidarity. Without the
constraints of a timeline, clock, or budget, the record's relaxed vibe
showcases Seth's growth as a writer and an observer of the troubled
world around him.

"'The Trouble With People' is truly an artist's complete palette.
With songs that are as bare-boned as a guitar and a melody to the
sweeping orchestral numbers that seem to be conducted by Seth's
captivating voice. The record also features Alan Evans (Soulive) on
drums and Naia Kete on background vocals."

I couldn't be more proud of this one. The barn raisers have had their
copies for awhile, and you can get yours before the release date if
you come to a show. For those of you hungry for more info on this
release, I sat down with Greg from Tree House Concerts to record a
podcast interview. It features some of the stories behind the songs
and the recording sessions, and it's a nice little snapshot of our
conversation. Head on over to

GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR
Set List

<> Here's the setlist so far for Guitar Hero World Tour, as reported
by IGN.

While this is a hot set so far, many of the songs and bands cross over
between the two [Guitar Hero and Rock Band]. Still, Dinosaur, Jr. in
TWO Music games? And the same song? That's a little odd. The other
cross-title tracks are: Silversun Pickups, "Lazy Eye;" Survivor, "Eye
of the Tiger;" Billy Idol (Rebel Yell in GH, White Wedding in RB),
Blink 182 ("Dammit" was listed under the early leaked setlists for RB,
which were mostly true, so I'm including it as it may well be DLC
soon), Foo Fighters, "Everlong;" Paramore (Different tracks). Almost
a third of the tracks announced are either the same tracks or by the
same artists.

That being said, the first batch of songs, including Hotel California
and the Hendrix tracks, clearly take the cake in terms of sheer awesome.

Airbourne . . . "Too Much Too Young"
At the Drive-In . . . "One Armed Scissor"
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club . . . "Weapon of Choice"
Bob Seger . . . "Hollywood Nights"
Dinosaur Jr. . . . "Feel the Pain"
Silversun Pickups . . . "Lazy Eye"
Survivor . . . "Eye of the Tiger"

If you're keeping track, this brings the total number of confirmed
songs to twenty-three to date. The previously announced songs are:

Billy Idol . . . "Rebel Yell"
Blink 182 . . . "Dammit"
Foo Fighters . . . "Everlong"
Jimi Hendrix . . . "Purple Haze Live"
Jimi Hendrix . . . "Wind Cries Mary"
Linkin Park . . . "What I've Done"
Paramore . . . "Misery Business"
Sublime . . . "Santeria"
The Doors . . . "Love Me Two times"
The Eagles . . . "Hotel California"
Van Halen . . . "Hot for Teacher"

ENTRAIN
Timeless

Entrain is a venerable Cape of Good Cod band that I remember Mickey
O'Halloran really liked. Founding members Sam Holmstock and Tom Major
have stuck with this ensemble, which evidently is still working its
seventh record release, "Entrain 7: Just a Matter of Time" (issued
late December 2007).

<> "Entrain now features [drummer] Major and Holmstock (on
conga/djembe/trombonist), both from the Vineyard, and newcomers Lenny
Bradford from Pottstown, Pa., on bass; Phillip Young from Georgia on
saxophone, keys, and percussion; Boston journeyman Johnny Trama on
guitar; and Jeff Clark, the new 27-year-old lead vocalist from Key
West, Fla."

GUSTER
Guster News
News of Guster

<> "Ryan and Angela's daughter, Lionelle Rosalie Miller, arrived June
16th. The third (and final) Guster-girl of the year, Leo weighed 7
pounds and 14 ounces at birth. Her photo is up on the road journal,
along with pictures of her friends Jolene Rosenworcel and Sloan Gardner.

"Despite all the procreation, we've been putting the finishing touches
on about seventeen new songs this summer and we ought to begin
recording them in a month. For those of you keeping score at home,
we've moved from Reprise/Warner Brothers Records to Aware/Columbia
Records. Expect a new album in early oh nine.

"And those of you hoping to stalk Scooter this summer can find him
traveling the world greening tours by Jack Johnson and DMB for Adam's
environmental non-profit, REVERB. Our merch-girl, Amy, is doing the
same thing on tours by John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows. Visit
this link, where Adam becomes an official 'EarthKeeper,' to check out
what Scooter and Amy have been up to, sign up to volunteer, and see
free music."

GRACE POTTER AND THE NOCTURNALS
Summertime News

<> "Ladies and Gentlemen, for some midsummer mirth! Ah yes, the
season is upon us for wild nights, long afternoons, cold drinks and
optional clothing. Since we've hit the road, the band has been
stocking up on a lot of great new music from local record stores and
falling into a downward spiral of TV show DVD box sets. The tour is
taking us across the U.S. and Canada with legendary acts such as
Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Black Crowes and the
Dave Matthews Band. In addition to sharing the stage with those fine
lads, there are plenty of opportunities to catch us headlining
throughout the summer and fall seasons, including an historic
homecoming at the Waterfront Park in Burlington, Vermont."

<> As a rule, we do not post SHOW LISTINGS. The reason is quite
simple. Though our name is the NEW ENGLAND Music Scrapbook, probably
an easy majority of our readers are based outside the six New England
states. The great majority of show listings would be of no interest
at all to the great majority of our readers.

We make exceptions when show listings are part of an item of more
general interest. CD-release events are great examples. For us, the
main point of an item of this sort is that an act has a new record.
The show being announced is of secondary interest to us - if that - as
far as the contents of our newsletter goes.

In the very few, truly exceptional instances where we post show
listings...

... Shows can be canceled, sold out, or even moved to another date or

confirming details.
