New England Scene Folk:
<> Maria McLaughlin received unhappy news about the closing of a
long-time (through two incarnations, it seems to me), very important
New Hampshire music hall, The Stone Church. Maria forwarded the news
here. It appears below.
<> Terrible news, too, about Tom Brady of the New England Patriots
being out for the season.
<> Since the last regular newsletter issue, we received knowing,
appreciative messages about Jerry Reed. It is great to see how highly
he was regarded and apparently by a great many people. Jerry Reed had
a certain genius about him that came out in his own remarkable brand
of versatility.
It seemed to me that "Guitar Man" was credited to Jerry Reed on my old
Elvis Presley vinyl. But when I checked CDs, I found the song
attributed to Jerry Hubbard. Now, you may know that Blowfish is the
Academic Dean at the College of Musical Knowledge. He pointed out
that Reed's full name was Jerry Reed Hubbard and he was known
professionally as Jerry Reed.
So we have that mystery solved.
Special thanks to Maria McLaughlin, Blowfish, and the many Jerry Reed
scholars among our readers. Thanks, too, to a gentleman whose name
many of you will know, Steven Pofcher, for straightening me out as to
which month I am currently living in. This is, indeed, September.
The weather has just behaved a lot like August.
Here is that message from The Stone Church.

Greetings,
<> Barring intervention, devine or otherwise, these are the final
shows that we will be presenting to you at The Stone Church, as we
will be closing our doors on Friday, Sept. 12th. As for the days
beyond that date, we do not know, but for the days between we extend
to all of you an invitation to join us up on the hill as we celebrate
four years of exceptional live music. We feel most fortunate for the
opportunity to share the time with you, the bonds we have created, no
matter how great or small, are a testament to the power and importance
of not only this great venue but of live music itself. Thank you all
so much for your patronage over the years. And as always, thank you
for supporting the art of live music.
Sincerely,
Your Friends at The Stone Church
