THREE DAY THRESHOLD
2008 Instant Replay
"Just to recap, we started off 2008 with a sold out performance at our
annual 'Rodfest' show at The Paradise ... then we went on to play
nearly 100 shows all over the globe. In addition to the shows we
played all over New England, we banged out a spring tour in Europe and
then did another one for the US troops stationed overseas in Central
America this summer. With the release of 'Lost in Belgium,' our new
critically acclaimed CD featuring new and old Three Day Threshold
songs recorded live from our tour from Belgium and The Netherlands, we
will close out 2008 heading back to Europe on December 26th for
another tour that will take us into January 2009."

CHRIS TRAPPER
The Story of His Song
"This Time"
"The Story of This Time - In The Artists' Own Words
"A couple years ago, one of the music supervisors working on August
Rush contacted me, saying they were stuck, and needed a song for the
main character (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers) to sing. There were
high stakes for this particular song, as it was the central romantic
theme of the film, and there was some creative tug-of-war going on as
to exactly what it should sound like.
"Warner Brothers sent me the script, and I remember I went and sat in
a chair in my backyard, read the whole thing, and then immediately
walked in my house, grabbed a guitar, tuned it down to dropD, and
wrote the whole song (This Time) very quickly.
"I recorded a rough demo of it a few days later in Boston, and sent it
in, with low expectations, because I knew a lot of heavy-hitter type
writers had already submitted songs. Almost immediately, I started
getting phone calls, first from the music supervisor, who loved it,
then I heard that Richard Lewis (the writer of the film) liked it, and
then Kirsten Sheridan (the director) liked it, which was a thrill,
cause I was a big fan of her film In America.
"The coolest part came about six months later, when they asked me to
shoot a scene with Jonathan (Rhys Myers) as a feather in the cap type
thing because everyone involved liked my song so much. The scene was
eventually edited out, but the experience will stay with me a long
time. I think Jonathan is a cool guy, and also one of the best actors
of our generation. He and I got chauffeured in and out of the streets
of San Francisco all day together, and I heard some amazing behind the
scenes stories that I'd get killed if I told...
"It was also kind of a career milestone when I received a call from
Phil Ramone saying he loved the song. Phil was working on the original
recordings for August Rush and he's arguably one of the most important
living musical figures of our time. He produced some of the greatest
artists ... Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, etc.
... so that was really exciting for me. Actually I remember when I
got the call, I was in the hospital a couple days after the birth of
my son, so my heart was pumping double speed.
"I think the reason the song worked well was because I related to the
character [that] Jonathan played. I had just branched off from my
band The Push Stars and was beginning to write some really
introspective material, so I figured that might be something he would
do too.
"Some of the lines really reflected where I was in life at the time,
especially ... I've been sitting, watching life pass from the
sidelines which was just a line I had hanging around in my head,
because I had a recurring feeling that I was waiting for something to
happen."

(Grammy Nominated August Rush Soundtrack)," December 12, 2008.

this issue, please forward this newsletter to them. Thanks! We
believe this is one of the main ways we pick up readers.
.
<> As a rule, we do not post SHOW LISTINGS. The reason is quite
simple. Though our name is the NEW ENGLAND Music Scrapbook, probably
an easy majority of our readers are based outside the six New England
states. The great majority of show listings would be of no interest
at all to the great majority of our readers.
We make exceptions when show listings are part of an item of more
general interest. CD-release events are great examples. For us, the
main point of an item of this sort is that an act has a new record.
The show being announced is of secondary interest to us - if that - as
far as the contents of our newsletter goes.
In the very few, truly exceptional instances where we post show
listings...
.
... Shows can be canceled, sold out, or even moved to another date or
location. We recommend checking the Web, calling ahead or otherwise
confirming details.
