BRATTLEBORO, VT, April 11 - Once again this week, much in this newsletter issue
is of real interest to me. With luck, many of you will be equally fortunate.

We have a couple more items; but they are relatively minor updates of previously
posted material, and it seems to me sending this issue at a good hour is most
important.
.

Special thanks to Steven Pofcher.

POST-LAST-MINUTE NOTE: . . After I finished this newsletter - or at least after
I thought it was finished - I saw a Yahoo Groups announcement of an outage on
Monday, April 13, 2009. Thought I'd make quick mention of it now, on the
outside chance whatever the outage involves might affect future mailings in some
adverse way. Probably not, but one never knows about these things.

PRESS RELEASES THIS WEEK

<> Rock Band: Recent Downloadable Content.

<> We also have a Tanya Tucker press release; but it is kinda buried in an
inbox, and I doubt I will get it posted in this issue. The press release has to
do with Tucker's covers album. It ought to be great. Here's betting we have
more than a few Tanya Tucker fans among our readers.

LONG AGO, BROWN UNIVERSITY . . received a considerable grant for its library's
music collection. Today, Brown has simply wonderful holdings of scores and
songbooks. It is a major resource here in the Northeast, and I, along with
many, many other people, have benefitted from it often.

Lissa Schneckenburger, probably without the aid of grant money, is a collector
of traditional New England songs and dance music. Her success in this pursuit
shows in her exceptional latest album,

RACHAEL SAGE
To Debut at the Iron Horse Music Hall
Northampton, Massachusetts
Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Whatever category one thinks Rachael Sage's music falls into, she is the best
dressed musician in that category. For my own part, I think Sage is
particularly gifted in the pop side of traditional rock music.

Sage is an engaging musician, a first-class interviewee, and a charming
personality. In short, she has a gift for niftiness.

Here's hoping she packs the Iron Horse on her first try.

"RACHAEL TO DEBUT AT THE IRON HORSE NEXT WEEK, APRIL 4:
TIX ON SALE NOW

"Iron Horse Music Hall

<> "OK this is a biggie ... and we know only a relative handful of you [on the
Rachael Sage mailing list] live in Massachusetts but we're just so damned
excited about this, we hope you'll pass along the invite to anyone who may be
able to attend! Rachael will be debuting at the Iron Horse Music Hall in
Northampton, Massachusetts on Tuesday, April 14th. Sharing the bill will be
up-and-comer Seth Glier, one of the most gifted and charismatic artists we've
discovered in a while. We really hope you'll come out and support!"

JOY GOODNOW
A Query in Three Parts

<> Several years ago, country singer Joy Goodnow copied her early recordings
onto CD.

>>> Do you have this disc?

>>> Do you have a current e-mail address for Joy Goodnow or do you know someone
who may? (Last I knew, she was having trouble connecting with John Penny; so as
obvious a candidate as he might seem at first, it is quite possible and even
likely that he does not have up-to-date contact information for Joy.)

>>> Do you know the married name of Joy's daughter or have a working e-mail
address for her?

If the answer to even one of these questions is "Yes," please e-mail us by way
of

FredRemainsLost At Yahoo Dot Com

only convert this into an all-lowercase, conventional e-mail address.

I had hoped to add Joy Goodnow's CD of her early recordings to our list of
records released by artists with strong New England ties.

For several years, Joy and I exchanged occasionally e-mails. But now the e-mail
addresses I have for her no longer work. The very first e-mail I ever received
from her came from her daughter's address. So I tried writing that one. The
daughter's e-mail address doesn't work, either. And the daughter's married name
was not included in the original mailing: that early message only gave the
title, "Mrs.," along with a single initial and what may be either a given name
or a nickname. Joy's daughter lives quite near here, so I could probably get
contact information for the daughter if I can only be reminded of her married
surname.

If you can help with any or all of this, please get in touch.

My Web searches, incidentally, turned up that an autographed copy of some
unnamed Joy Goodnow vinyl single recently changed hands for a very reasonable
price. Also,

Joy Goodnow
"Girl Who Loved You" b/w ? (45, MRC 2046, n.d.)

is currently posted as being for sale, online, at Gemm.com.

"MRC" probably stands for "Major Recording Co.," since "The Girl Who Loved You"
is Side One Track Three of her "Joy of Country" album which was released on that
very Major label.

Joy Goodnow
"The Joy of Country" (LP, Major 2015, n.d.)

Joy Goodnow's personal origins and also, I think, her family origins are in the
west. She is back there these days, or at least she was last I knew. But
actually, she grew up near here, Brattleboro, Vermont, and she went to high
school maybe a mile from here at the same place where I vote on election days.
To me, she will always be a local gal.

Joy is a very versatile singer, and she is one of my favorites on the country
side of this musical life.

As recently as a few years ago, Joy Goodnow was singing with a five-piece band,
and she may still be.

ELLIOT EASTON
At the Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp
Starting April 29, 2009

"Rock 'N Roll Fantasy Camp with Elliot Easton Kicks Off on April 29th!

<> "The New Cars' Elliot Easton will once again be a featured performer and
counselor at the 2009 Rock 'N Fantasy Camp."

SOURCE: The New Cars, "Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp With Elliot Easton Kicks Off
April 29th," April 9, 2009.

EVIDENTLY THIS HAS BEEN A REGULAR THING . . but it seems to me this item is the
first I, personally, have heard of it.

Wouldn't it be fun to work at a rock 'n' roll fantasy camp?!

This is a great idea, and Elliot Easton ought to be a fantastic fantasy camp
counselor.

Get me in touch with the Camp's financial aid office, and let's see whether
these folks offer scholarships. - Ed.

PAUL JANOVITZ

We, around here, mostly recall Paul Janovitz from his days in the 1990s Boston
rock band, Cold Water Flat. Apparently, though, he has enjoyed a much longer
career giving solo shows.

I do not positively remember the source of the following Paul Janovitz item,
though it seems to me it may be from a listing for a singer-songwriter
multi-artist bill at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts. It is a
nice item. Mercifully it makes no tired and totally unnecessary reference to
Paul being a brother of Bill Janovitz of Buffalo Tom.

OH, NO! They tricked me into mentioning it!

"Paul Janovitz

<> "Paul has been playing solo shows for over a decade now and is currently in
the process of making a record with his brother Scott (of Dragstrip Courage, The
Russians, The Great Bandini and Steely Dan fame) Among his influences are Tom
Waits, Corey Feldman, The Who, the other Corey, Stones, Dylan, and Neil Young."
.

JEFFREY FOUCAULT
Has Recorded An Album
(Say, didn't he just release a CD?)

<> "A few weeks ago I went up to Verdant Studios in Vermont and cut a new record
in two days, a full band treatment of poems, lyrics, and fragments of writing by
poet Lisa Olstein that I set to music a few years ago. It's called Cold
Satellite and I'm hoping to have it out by the fall. It's a room recording that
aims somewhere between The Faces and Crazy Horse and lands in a whole other
territory that I can't really describe. We had a ball making it and I'm real
excited to get this one out into the world. Stay tuned for progress reports,
early warnings."

BEN PATTON
RICK AND THE RAMBLERS
"Hot Sauce"

<> Lately it was my distinct and very great pleasure to play the Ben Patton
song, "Hot Sauce," from the foot-tappin' Rick and the Ramblers album, "I Rode
the Ti," for a fellow who is personally acquainted with Patton and who went to
school with Anna Patton, Ben's sister. He had never heard, nor even heard OF,
"Hot Sauce," and he likes it as I do.

ROCK BAND

Word we received of the coming week's Rock Band downloadable content (DLC) is a
good deal less formal than usual. We pass it along anyway, since our readers
likely include many Guns 'N Roses fans.

YAHOO MUSIC NEWS HEADLINE
The Missing Item

<> Now I see I goofed up. One of the topmost headlines and lead-ins on the
Yahoo Music News page says major festival producers do not anticipate that their
efforts will be much harmed by the recession. It seemed to me this would be of
interest to many of our readers, and I had intended to copy that entry here. No
doubt a search of Yahoo Music News would easily turn up this article. - Ed.

Here is that Yahoo Music News item:

<> As a rule, we do not post SHOW LISTINGS. The reason is quite simple. Though
our name is the NEW ENGLAND Music Scrapbook, probably an easy majority of our
readers are based outside the six New England states. The great majority of
show listings would be of no interest at all to the great majority of our
readers.

We make exceptions when show listings are part of an item of more general
interest. CD-release events are great examples. For us, the main point of an
item of this sort is that an act has a new record. The show being announced is
of secondary interest to us - if that - as far as the contents of our newsletter
goes.

In the very few, truly exceptional instances where we post show listings...
