Under the University of San Agustin Conservatory of Music Iloilo City, the USA Troubadours is composed of selected students from the University. Orgnized in 1972, the group was originally composed of 16 talented students from USA Conservatory of Music who bonded because of common love: to sing. The pioneers sang mostly Renaissance and Classical Music a capella. Through the years, the group has expanded its repertoire that now covers sacred and secular pieces both classical and contemporary. However, with the alarming publice apathy to Filipino music and the rising popularity of Western music particularly among the young, the group has set itself to express what is genuinely ours. Thus, it gave the audience an exposure to Filipino folk songs that reveal the colorful language and harmony of our people.
For more than three decades, the USA Troubadours have been conducting concert tours and lecture-performances in schools and public halls acrooss the towns and cities of Western Visayas as well as in the various cities of the Philippines. Likewise, it has joined festivals and competitions where it earned acclaim for its excellence in choral music. It received honors from the National Music Competitions for Young Artists in 1996 and 2002 and was adjudged as National Champion during the "Wow Philippines Himig Pinoy" (Best of the best Choral Competition) of the department of Tourism last December 2003. The USA Troubadours also successfully participated in the 2003 Philippine International Choral festival held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and various churches in Laguna. Just recently, the group actively took part in "Panakayon sa Palanublion" the Visayas Grand production of "Pilak" commemorating the Silver Year of CCP's Outreach and Exchange Program and CCP's 35th Anniversary. Inspired by its triumphs, the members continue to express music that sing the "fondest and most sublime dreams and hopes" of the people - their audience.
