Is video stuff okay? I've got about 4 hours of stuff in PAL video format,
including 2 full concerts and a 45 minutes live performance and interviews
for German TV. I think it may also have a recording of Radiation Vibe from
Top Of the Pops 2 in the UK...

From a CNN Interview with Sir Elton John.... Props to the boys of FoW!!
Q: You go out of your way to support new artists. Why?
JOHN: The first five years of my career we played with people that were
our stone cold idols, and everyone treated us so well. That's why I try
and give a hand out to young people, because people did that to me. I
remember phoning Fountains of Wayne when "Utopia Parkway" came out. They
thought it wasn't me on the phone, but it was. I just wanted to say,
"This is such a great album." It's important to let people know that.

Alex Chilton the singer/guitarist from the Box Tops, and Big Star is
missing in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Chilton, a Memphis native, has lived in New Orleans for about twenty
years now.
He survived the initial hurricane on Sunday, and spoke to his sister,
and also to a friend by phone on Monday. But then, the levee broke,
and his neighborhood flooded, and the telephone system in New Orleans
went down, and he hasn't been heard from since. His whereabouts are
currently unknown. It is not known if he died in the flooding, or
escaped to one of the refugee shelters.
Chilton first burst onto the Rock scene in 1967 with the Box Tops and
their number one hit "The Letter" - "Get me a ticket for an air-o-
plane. I ain't got time to take a fast train. Lonely days are gone,
and I'm a coming home. My baby wrote me a letter." The Box Tops
followed up this hit with two other Top Ten U.S. hits: "Cry Like A
Baby" and "Soul Deep".
In the early 1970s, Alex Chilton formed the cult Power-Pop Band, Big
Star along with singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Bell. Big Star was
not popular during the 1970s, but has gained in popularity since, as
a cult act, being sited as an influence by R.E.M., the Replacements,
and Teenage Fanclub among others.
Big Star broke up in 1974, and Alex Chilton has pursued a sporadic
solo career since then, releasing several solo albums. He also began
performing now and then, on the oldies circuit, with the Box Tops
from the mid-1990s onward. Chilton and original drummer Jody
Stephens, also resurrected Big Star, in the early 1990s, with two
members of the band the Posies filling in for the late Chris Bell,
and bass player Andy Hummel who chose not to participate in the
reunion.
If you want to keep track of the search for Alex Chilton's
whereabouts, you can do so on this Geocities Alex Chilton/Box
Tops/Big Star site. They are posting the latest information as
relayed by Alex's family, and close friends.
http://www.geocities.com/soho/8994/bigstar.html
Here's to hoping that he's found, alive and well, soon.
Greetings from Stockton, CA fan!
Nationally syndicated radio program "The Don and Mike Show" (Infinity
Broadcasting show originating from WJFK-FM out of Washington D.C.) plugged
FoW during their opening segment on their Monday, August 29th broadcast.
The show is syndicated to several markets throughout the United States and
Canada. I am, obviously, a listener of the program. Show commander Don
Geronimo (a.k.a. Mike Sorce) began Monday's show with glaring praise of the
band, as well as, fanfaring the opening of the show with FoW's cover of
"Baby Hit Me One More Time" as musical backdrop. While there was no mention
of the source from which Geronimo culled the track, he heaped warm praise
upon the group (paraphrase - "one of my favorite, FAVORITE bands, Fountains
Of Wayne..."), as well as, plugged Adam's "That Thing You Do"/The Wonders
efforts.
Don Geronimo is/has been a prominent radio personality for over twenty five
years, and spent many early years playing records before becoming a
comedic/talk radio celebrity. His appreciation and knowledge of radio,
radio and records, and the history of pop music in general, is a consistent
feature on the show.....so needless to say, Don Geronimo plugging Fountains
Of Wayne is akin to that of radio "knighthood". I thought it was great, and
I'm happy to have recorded his praises.
Hope some of you heard him as well. I have included cc's and bcc's to
persons who might (from one salesman to another) make use of the support in
future efforts to promote the group.
Have a great Labor Day weekend, wherever you are.
yk

Arrived today...a few days early, which was nice.
It's good to hear the old stuff (and the new stuff too) in a single
collection along with the notes in the booklet. As mentioned
previously, it's a shame that the label didn't bundle the rest of the
unreleased/b-sides, which I deduce to be:
I'll Do The Driving (the German mix)
Troubled Times (Clean)
Everythings ruined (Move On Version)
Too Cool For School
Better Things
Tell Me What You Already Did
The Crank Yankers stuff
Any more studio stuff?
Bummer. But hey, maybe in another ten years then, eh?
P
No problem Dom...thanks !
I`m happy to do it..particularly as I dont have many video clips myself.
So im grateful to all those offering.
Hopefull we end with something people will be happy with.
Cheers

Just a quick note to Dave : THANKS for all the work

Hi All,
over the next few days I`ll be compiling a list of the sort of stuff
thats being "offered" for the DVD project.
I`ll put on as much as I know at this stage as a reference point for
all.
I`ll then upload this as a txt file in the Files section of this
group.
I shall be gathering more detail about the files
being "offered"...Format(NTSC or PAL) and any coments on quality.
As long as its deemed watchable it will be included..quality is
dependant on perception...and we could end up getting bogged down
with it.
No doubt we will have many instances of one song...but with different
clips of it...I intend to use all to make it as complete as poss.
Thanks to all those who have offered so far...I will upload the txt
list in a few days time.
Arrangements are yet to be made how the stuff will get to me for
compiling. Most can probably be emailed...some have videotapes and
have no knowledge how to convert ...so they will have to send the
tape for me to do that.I have to look into this in more detail.
I`d welcome any comments/ideas regarding any of this.
I will be authoring the DVD to include menu`s/chapters/titles etc.
The only thing I cant do with the Authoring software is put some
music to play whilst displaying the menu`s.
Thanks

Thanks Samuel for your offer.
Well see how many folks have anything we can use over a period of
time...and then decide how to get it together etc.
Thanks again
After reading boing93's message on the FOW.us forum, I think can
contribute to the FOW DVD project.
I only have one DVD with the band, but a very good one.
It contains a VH1 documentary (+live performances) and the
broadcast of their appearance on Austin City Limits.
Picture and sound are perfect.
(I can provide you with more info later, just ask)
Cheers.

minutes late to start his set)
Set list (order is approximate):

Mexican Wine
Maureen (if you havent heard this song yet, its available on iTunes,

Hackensack
Hey Julie
Half a Woman
Stacy's Mom
Sink to the Bottom
Janice's Party
Sink to the Bottom
Red Dragon Tattoo
Leave the Biker
Radiation Vibe (with the whole first verse and chorus of Billy Idol's

Denise
I happened to get a decent video tape of the show..... but due to
several unfortunate circumstances, the video has NO audio
whatsoever.... so, I beg for anyone who taped the show's audio or
anyone who ends up finding it anywhere to PLEASE get in touch with me
so that I can put some sound to this video (and then trade it out, of
course).
Link to Maureen on iTunes: (great song....very catchy and very fast

Given the fact that at least three of the promo videos (Sink To The
Bottom, Denise and Stacy's Mom) are currently available to buy, it would
be questionable to include those.
I have my own excellent quality captures (pure digital captures using a
DVB card) of the Stacy's Mom performances on Top of The Pops and CD:UK.
I'm happy to donate those to the project - email me privately.
Dave.
Hi Dom and all,
The best way of distributing the compilation would probably be via the
Blanks & Postage method. In that way its just covering the cost of
getting it to people...as against being seen to make money out of
it...which would be unfair to the band and breaking any rules etc.
The first thing is to get all known footage together from various
sources to enable the thing to be put together.
As I said ,I`m happy to do it if I can be supplied with any material in
addition to the few I have...can anyone help ?
Dave
Hey Dave and everyone !
I'm in ! I totally would buy one from you...especially considering I have NEVER
seen any FOW promo videos..or any tv appearances...Great idea !

Yes, RV is available in a VERY low-fi version (recorded from MTV if I
recall) at http://www.fountainsofwayne.us That's the only version I've
seen.
I'm assuming that whoever encoded that file at least at some stage had a
copy on VHS tape.
Dave.
Just ran across this interview with Glenn Tilbrook (from Squeeze) who
has covered Red Dragon Tattoo regularly on his recent solo tours.
Who would you like to collaborate with now?
I'm going to be collaborating with Fountains of Wayne. [PlaybackSTL
injects a spastic "That would be incredible!" here] Yeah, that'll be
great; I'm really keen on doing that. We talked about it when we played
a show together in London, where I got up and played with them, and it
was really great fun. I think they're such a great band, and they like
what I do, as well, which is lovely. I think we're definitely going to
work together on something--I've been in e-mail contact with [FoW's]
Chris Collingwood, and we're working on something.
Here's the link in case you're interested in the rest!
