EGYPTIAN RHYTHM & MOVEMENT FOR RAQS AL-SHARQI Understanding Middle Eastern Rhythms and Music for Dance Saturday, July 11, 2009 3:30-6:00 pm   This workshop is designed for dancers of all levels, and styles. It is an invaluable tool for any dancer who wants to step their dance up to the next level. The challenge of dancing to Live Music is a special one, and something that every dancer can use in her performance career. Master instructor Souhail Kaspar (www.neareastmusic.com), the originator of this unique style for teaching Traditional Arabic Dance, began his formal workshops in the United States in the 1980's. In this class, he serves as a teacher and coach for all levels and styles of dancers. Mr. Kaspar gives students the tools to "hear" Middle Eastern Rhythm and Music and the skills to match the traditional dance movements of Raqs al Sharqi to what they hear. His presentation style is clear, precise and fun! Kashmir Isis of Los Angeles has been an avid student of the dance since the early 90's, having spent years carefully studying with local and international teachers in weekly classes and workshops. She is a graduate of the Ansuya Certification Program, and has performed with Live Musicians in and around Los Angeles since her debut in 1999. She will illustrate how the movements match the music to create a seamless performance and how to grow the skills and maintain them for use in different performance settings.   Limited spots available! KarmaBellydance and Weathervane Dance are pleased to co-host this full day of workshops and hafla.   Tabu's renowned "Robot Zombie Funk", 10:00 am-noon What is Robot Zombie Funk? It's Shaun of the Dead meets James Brown meets Mr. Roboto. Tabu combines elements of urban pop and lock techniques with the spooky smooth transitions of dark fusion. Learn hot combos and a short choreography to take a piece of Tabu home with you... Pop and Lock your way to a funktified new day! "Poi for Bellydancers!", 2:30-4:30 pm Bring a phenomenal nuance of grace, beauty, and POIse (ha-ha) to your dance as you learn this spectacular art from the hands of a master! Danya will endeavor to show how poi can be used as an extension to belly dance and will focus on finding your own dance style within poi movements. Prior poi knowledge is not necessary, basic technique will be covered as well as ways to incorporate these basics into your dance style. "Story Time with Tabu", 3:00-5:00 pm Join Tabu as they demonstrate how you can use music, movement, and emotion to tell a story. Whether you are an Egyptian Cabaret dancer, a Tribal Fusion dancer, or somewhere in between this workshop will help you explore your creative side and intrigue your audience. A short conversation about story construction, character creation, props, costumes, music, and understanding your audience will begin our journey; we'll finish with combinations and a short choreography.
