Thank you ALL for your gracious donations (money, time, dancing, and/or
drumming) for a wonderful organization -- the Mariposa Foundation. Thank you
for freezing your tootsies (and more!) off with us! The MF representative was
so appreciative and let us know that our efforts helped to put a smile on quite
alot of faces this Christmas time! The next day, AnJum performed at the MF
annual Christmas Party for children with leukemia and their families (healthy
siblings tend to get overlooked). The energy and love in that room touched us
all!

Exciting Announcement!
Please spread the word!
===============

Calling all Performing Artists in any WORLD MUSIC genre!!

Casting the widest possible net from Spoken Word griots,
poets, actors, singers, dancers, and instrumentalists who
perform anything from traditional African forms and styles
to world beat, to multi-culti mix-o-matic! Not Veg-o-Matic,
Ron Popeil can deal with that; we said Mix-o-Matic, whatever
that is (i.e., we're open to new music that is unfamiliar to us).

Dear Motherland Friend,

As you may already know, Motherland Music is developing
a brand-new content-based e-commerce web site to serve
you better. We also hope to serve new visitors better, too.

Part of the new site is devoted entirely to ARTISTS. If that
refers to you or someone you care about (do not presume
they will hear about this from someone else!), PLEASE be
so kind as to send us (or invite your artist/friend to send us)
a brief bio or press kit so we can help people find you/them!

We will devote space to every deserving artist who provides
us with substantial evidence that they in fact are a musical/
dance artist who might appeal to our growing family, and we
hope to grow along with many of you while great traditional
and contemporary music continues to take over the airwaves
and record bins around the planet. Got the goods? SHOW US.

What you're (or they're) welcome to send us:

1. Artist Stage Name (individual or group--if group, usual lineup please).
2. If affiliated with (aka "signed" with) a label, label name/music publisher.
3. Brief biography (50-200 words) in any format.
4. (If you can) 1-5 Music samples in .mp3 format (10 MB max. each)
5. How you and/or music critics describe your live sound (unless you do not perform live).
6. Whether you would be interested in being booked for performances at area schools,
shopping centers, or night spots by Motherland Music.

PLEASE ACT QUICKLY, and send to: webmaster@....

The sooner we get it, the sooner we can promote the info. about another ARTIST.
Note: By sending us your press info. you implicitly give us permission to publish it!

Thank you VERY MUCH for you ongoing support--we want to support artists, too!

Hi, friends and family:

I was a college freshman the year President Kennedy was killed.  Looking back now, I’m sure that event, combined with my upbringing in Berkeley, prompted me to seriously think about change.  I was very close to a double major in both Sociology and Psychology because I wanted to know both how individuals change and what happens to a person in a group.  How does collective change happen, and what makes it sustainable over the years, in the face of changing circumstances?

As soon as I could, I plunged into political activism, thinking that that was the pivotal point of real change.  Since change itself was a given, I wanted to impact what kind of change occurred.

But over the years it became clear that all the various issues are connected – both over time and space – and that, without a larger context, it became harder to discern which changes really mattered in the long run.  And which worked.  There was a gradual shift from the external environment to the internal.  Where did I personally need to change and how could I do it, consciously and deliberately?  The spiritual context, the root of morality, began to loom large and I sought out different groups, learned different practices.  And that’s when I discovered Andrew Cohen’s teaching of Evolutionary Enlightenment.

In the past two years, since I became a Practitioner, it feels as if all the various pieces are falling into place.  Behind all change is the level of consciousness that shows up in the world, both individually and collectively.  It’s quite the adventure to discover that what is unknown is way more exciting than what is known.  Every day, in one way, I feel like I know less and less, which only fuels my curiousity!  When you know in your bones, in the deepest part of yourself, that life itself, each individual life, is the expression of one awesome - and positive - evolutionary unfolding, it changes everything.  And the mission of Evolutionary Enlightenment is to “change the world from the inside out”.

Which is why I’m looking forward to retirement at the end of this year.  But even more than that, I’m planning to participate in a Meditation Marathon on Dec. 13 as part of a fundraiser for EnlightenNext.  It’s been fun to create the following link for it.  Please do have a look and consider sponsoring me.  And thanks for taking the time to read this far!  :-)

Have a very Happy Thanks-Giving, everyone!

Welcoming new members -- Grace and Gabby -- to the AnJum family! Grace has been
dancing/performing for quite a while, with a versatile background that includes
cabaret and flamenco. Gabby has been studying with Nika for over a year and is
going to be an awesome addition! Their debuts were this weekend at the
Claremont ArtWalk, Upland Music & Arts Festival, and Bombay Bistro.

Thanks to Paquita, Azari, and El Amar for guest dancing at Bombay Bistro last
night. Beautiful women, gorgeous dancing, and enjoyable music -- as always! I am
embarrassed about the disrespectful and/or ignorant drummer & musician. They
were informed.
