Taper's Notes:
Because of the prodding of the one I love, I flipped on my PC to tune into the
AT&T Blue Room presentation of Lucinda Williams, live at today's Austin City
Limits Music Festival in my home state of Texas. The web cast shows a different
performer every hour. Yesterday, from work, I caught Andrew Bird (my new hero),
Stephen Marley and a bit of the Indigo Girls. Well, when the cast flipped to
Lucinda, she was already well into her presumably first song, "Righteously. "
Then came another, something about ditching a dude and mud, "warm and messy like
your love." Listening to that song, an idea crept into my head. Why not plug a
cord from my headphone jack to my mic jack, and hit record with Cool Edit Pro
(44100 sample rate, stereo, 16-bit) - the same way I've transferred audio tapes
to CD for my personal listening pleasure. This is the result of that
experiment. Fresh!
Above, in the set list, "barely clipping" means that the sound recorded on those
songs was a little eensy-bitsy too much for Cool Edit Pro to capture, because
the sound setting was too high. In between the second and third recorded sound,
though, I reduced the sound ... and then when I mastered it, I "amplified" the
WAV, but not to the point of further "clipping." I learned all these geeky terms
from working at a radio station. Basically, in a nutshell, it means I tried my
best to master this great soundboard professional recording to the best of my
abilities. It should sound great to your ears.
