Siguiendo La Tradicion
CD (Salsaneo 821), Released 2006;
Editor's Pick:
It's hard not to love an orchestra swinging along with a baritone
saxophone holding down the horns. The band, based in Washington
State, and lead by the percussionist Steve Guasch, moves between
salsa dura and Afro Caribbean versions of jazz standards, including
Miles Davis' Solar, the standard My Favorite Things and others.
They're rearranged, with Solar losing its changes in a montuno for a
while until the solos start. Ray Vega shows up for two solos, and
the guests include Paoli Mejias and Junior Medina on timbales. It
rocks.
Highly Recommended. (Peter Watrous, 2006-01-23)
