I wouldn't have put any money on a new version of "Que Manera de
Quererte" but I'm surely wrong. Morales, a drummer and bandleader
from Cuba, brings Angel Bonne in to sing the tune and he hasn't
sounded better in years, with the tune roaring from the first notes.
The rest of the album lives up to the tune, roping Pedrito Calvo,
Tirso Duarte and others to handle the lead vocals. It's salsa, but
supercharged; there are even covers of older material, updated —
"Pare Cochero," with killing coros, and a tribute to Compay
Secundo, done as a rap; check out how great Pedro Calvo sounds
singing on the tune. Ok, so it doesn't all work, but it mostly does.
Highly recommended, in part because the arrangements goose the
singers into doing some serious work. Comes with a dvd. (Peter
