The Echo Park Project
Retro New York Salsa
CD (Echo Park 88232), Released 2006;
Editor's Pick:
The brainchild of producer Carlo López, The Echo Park Project is a
tribute to the music that filled the clubs, streets, and apartments —
in the 1970s. Like Los Rumberos Del Barrio, The Echo Park Project
CD Retro New York Salsa consists of covers, done with respect,
heart, soul and sabor. Some of the tracks interpreted are Lalo
Rodríguez' "Mi Ritmo Llegó," Tite Curet Alonso's "El Hijo de
Obatalá," Javier Vazquez' "Lio," "Que Tenga Sabor" by Rosendo Ruiz,
and Machito's "Bongo Fiesta." Simply stated, these tracks swing.
Great job by the band, featuring vocalists Daniel Castillo, Martin
Padillo, Jose Caridad Hernandez, bassist John Belzaguy, conguero
Joey De Leon, trombonists Edwin Blás and Humberto Ruiz, Artie Webb
on flute, pianists Esteban Adame, Tom Regis, Joe Rotondi, sax player
Frank Fontaine, pianist Mateo Amper, tresero Tony Velez, and
trumpeters Sal Cracchiolo and Vito Speranza, and timbalero-bongocero
Tomás Martin López.
Great for the dancers... a heck of a lot of fun, and Highly
Recommended. (BP, 2006-06-27)
