Led by bassist-singer Chacho "Gustavo" Schartz, the debut CD by the
east coast based Son De Madre is a first-class salsa dura number
featuring well crafted arrangements by Mr. Schartz and Willie
Torres. Son De Madre, a working band — you can hear it in their
music — includes trumpeter Tomer Levy, sax player-flautist Onel
Mulet, drummer Diego Lopez, conguero-timbalero Willie Torres and
pianist-vocalist Naomi Bloch-Shartz. On Rumberos, however, there are
are a number of special guests — especially on the last number, a
killer dance-club pick (and the CD's best track) simply called "Son
de Madre." Here you'll also find Pablo "Chino" Nuñez, Luisito
Quintero, George Delgado, Mitch Frohman, John Walsh, Edwin Sanchez
and Pablo Santaella — among others.
