For the past 15+ years I've been translating a great Russian poet /
singer / bard Vladimir Vysotsky into English. Finally I deemed my
translations worthy of being recorded. But I wanted them to be more
than just translations. I wanted them to be songs: quality songs,
interesting to a contemporary listener, both a fan of Vysotsky and a
novice. Between May 2007 and February 2008 the album was recorded,
mixed, and mastered in different studios across New York and New
Jersey. The result was a unique album, featuring:

* 16 translated songs of Vladimir Vysotsky.
* Modernized-yet-faithful arrangements of his songs: some –
traditional (acoustic and orchestral), some – completely new.
* A cast of 14 international performers, including stars from various
genres: folk rock, classical music, blues, and heavy metal!
* 12 page booklet with translated lyrics and photos.

I just read an excellent interview (in Russian, sorry) with Nikita
Vysotsky, Vladimir's son. The layout exaggerates what Nikita was
saying a bit. The picture he paints is pretty much waht I assumed
about his kids, not terribly close to him, but there was still fillial
affection.

Hi Jose,

I do not think you can find the exact "soundtrack" from the movie. Probably the
song and it's version was made just for the movie and you will not find it on
any CD. There was no soundtracks at this time, neither any CD's at all. The
unique thing is that every time Visotskiy presented a song is different. So, try
to enjoy the other versions too. You can find two versions of this song on my
blog:

I have a pretty unique LP from 1970's with a big orchestra, so it might be
something that you are looking for. I have to digitalized it, so it will take
some time, but I will do it one day and I can upload it on the web.

I am incredibly happy to finally download the songs from the files
section. I saw the movie "White Nights" in the eighties and wondered
for over twenty years who the singer was and how I could get his
music.
Vladimir Vysotsky was a singer of incredible passion. If only pop
singers nowadays had even a tenth of his power and emotion in their
voices.
  All my grandparents were Mennonites from Denepropetrovk. My
grandfather was a veteran of the Russian revolution in the white army
(His uncle was in the Duma)
and of course many in my family were killed or sent to Siberia. My
grandparents immigrated to Canada in 1925 after losing everything to
the Communists.

Its a shame I don't speak Russian but from the first time I heard
Vysotsky, I felt like I was coming in touch with a little bit of my
soul. Anyone who listens to this music can't help but feel the true
deepness and passion of the Russian people!

I know a few friends, Russian film makers, in Birmingham, AL who right now are
making a film about Vysotsky. They have even written and gained permission from
Marina Vlady to make this film. All their other work is very good, I will try
and post updates when I hear something, right now all I know is that they have
completed a script and are beginning to film I believe.

I like to listen the songs of Vyssotzky very much and no friend of
mine is a friend who doesn't love Vyssotzky.

But I would like to know if there are love songs from Vyssotzky or
just positive songs from Vyssotzky about life which are full of joy.

I can't speak very good Russian and I hardly understand the songs of
Vyssotzky (maybe words or phrases) so any help of native Russians
