I'm sailing in a race from Marblehead Mass to Halifax Nova Scotia t   Message List

Hi folks,

I just wanted to send this out.  I'm doing a 360 mile open ocean sailboat race that starts at 1pm tomorrow.  It should take us between four to five days to get to the finish line.  It's the famous Marblehead to Halifax race that had it's 100 year anniversary in 2005.  Information on the race at:

We are sailing across the Gulf of Maine, made famous by the book and film, A Perfect Storm.  Yikes, I'm suddenly nervous.

My father helped John (the skipper and owner) and I get the boat up from NYC and we've been taking in the lovely town of Marblehead for the past two days as we arrived early yesterday afternoon.  It was both terrific and scary sailing from Newport and in Cape Cod Bay.

We've installed a satellite transponder so that anyone with internet can actually track our progress on the following link which updates every hour.

Click on the Boat Selector button in the middle left side of the screen.  Click on the last arrow or box that comes up entitled PHC-2   There should be eight or so boats listed.  We are the Exquis (french for exquisite).  As it stands, we are first on the list (because it is sorted alphabetically).  If you check the box next to our boat name, you should see our Latitude and Longitude coordinates and average speed, as well as us as a blip on the map on your screen.  You are able to track up to 10 boats at a time, so you would be able to see how well or badly we are doing against 9 other boats at a time.  We are one of only four double hander crews and the smallest vessel in the entire race (30 foot Beneteau 1981)  The skipper, John is a friend of mine and a fellow school teacher.  Anyway, wish us luck.

Take care,
Peter
