Subject: Fw: OYSTER BAY - Please circulate
I am delighted to tell you about TAN Dance's OYSTER PROJECT . . . . . . . .
. .
THE OYSTER PROJECT has been working, through dance and visual art, with over
600 adults, young people and children from schools, community groups and
partner organisations across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
TAN's Arts Council of Wales Beacon Award for excellence has made this
exciting project possible. The climax of the project is ... OYSTER BAY, a
dance theatre production celebrating the oyster industry in Swansea Bay.
OYSTER BAY will bring together a cast of 300 dancers - children, young
people and adults, for TAN'S landmark community arts performance:
OYSTER BAY
Swansea Grand Theatre - Monday 3rd August at 7.30pm
A Dance Theatre Production - the story of the oyster industry in Swansea Bay
THE STORY is brought to life by the writing of local poet John Jenkins whose
text has inspired the choreography and will appear in the programme.
THE SCENOGRAPHY for the production has been created by our locally placed
asylum seekers and refugees, and people with homelessness and mental health
issues, led by Kidwelly artist Lynne Bebb.
THE EXHIBITION of the artwork is at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea
26th June - 20th July, and at Swansea Grand Theatre 20th July - 3rd August.
THE CHOREOGRAPHY is led by Creative Wales Award Winner and international
choreographer Douglas Comley working with TAN' s tutor team to create this
dance theatre production. A cast of 300 is no problem for Douglas who has
choreographed up to 6,000 performers for opening and closing ceremonies at
sporting events throughout the world as well as many dance pieces for
theatre.
THE COSTUMES by Jessica Mautner will be imaginative and authentic, spanning
1900-1930, an artistic solution to dressing 300 people, taking inspiration
from oyster beds, the Swansea coastline and working people.
THE MUSIC is original, composed by Swansea based musician John Howes and
based on traditional folk material. Music will be played live on stage by
John's band Bear Bones.
There's something for everyone in OYSTER BAY - come and share in the
culmination of our exciting project, a creative interpretation of the oyster
industry and our local heritage.
Please forward this email and attachment, to your contacts.
THE WORLD'S OUR OYSTER - HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE !
