Oh well done, Karen! Such an achievement to perform these works: as you say,
they are sublime, and I think (without even hearing your performance), they take
a sublime effort to approach. No wonder your breathing was awry, nerves can
scupper us all, but having the courage to try it is immense.
I look forward to hearing it.

Well, for better or worse, I did it. (yay!) I sang "Schmerzen" at
the Vero Beach Opera's Resident Artists concert on Sunday. I haven't
sung it since college, more than 20 years ago (haven't really sung
much at all since then, other than in church), so this was really a
challenge.
My brother & sister-in-law (both professional musicians, btw)
surprised me by coming to the concert, and my brother recorded my
performance on his iPhone. I've uploaded it in the Files section.
Supposedly, VBO recorded a DVD of the concert, so if I get a copy,
I'll try to upload the video as well.
Unfortunately, I got terrible stage fright that caused my breath
control to go out the window. I was so afraid that I would run out
of air that I kept taking breaths everywhere, which really messed up
the phrasing. :-( Oh well - I can't change that now.
Also, my accompanist basically sight-read the piece, which accounts
for the clunkers you hear. Sorry about all that. I hope it's not
*too* terribly painful for you to listen to. Hopefully, it will be
less painful for you than it was/is for me. LOL I'm just glad it's
over, but it made me want to begin working on the songs again in
earnest. I think they are sublime. :-)
