Hello All,
I am heading to Hawaii the latter half of June (this is a tough
job,but somebody has to do it) and in my off time I was hoping to
visit with Jerry Byrd -another steel guitar legend.Sadly Jerry passed
away April 11
of this year and will be sadly missed.Jerry recorded with numerous
well known names over the years and is often credited with being the
driving influence behind the prominence of the steel guitar in so many
Country
songs-especially those songs coming from Nashville. For the past 30+
years Jerry had been in Hawaii and established quite a following there.
Intesting enough ,it was like Jerry had returned to the place of his
musical roots as in his early years he was influenced to take up the
steel guitar from listening to a radio show called "Hawaii Calls"
which of course featured among other instruments the "Hawiian Steel
Guitar".The show ran for some 30+ years starting in the mid 30's.
Here is a link to his fan club webpage included with a list of folks
he is credited as playing or recording with, including Hank
Williams,Ernest Tubb,Red Foley and numerous others.
