Allen,I appreciate the kind words regarding the `websites I find on the
Net.I am always glad to share these with the fine folks here with the
hope they will enjoy them as much as I do.
I am glad to hear of Speedy West receiving this honor and this is yet
another confirmation of my point about Speedy being counted under the
Western Swing category. Some of the dear listeners apparently drew the
conclusion that Speedy should not be under this category and cite the
more urban,"West Coast" work that Speedy did with Tennessee Ernie Ford
and Kay `Starr as the premise of this argument. These dear listeners are
basing this conclusion on limited exposure to the numerous range of
recordings Speedy did over his career ,as his studio credits number in
the thousands .But enough on this personal peeve of mine. There again I
guess someday I will have to tell the saga of the near fist fight I
almost had with a Big Band show DJ when he told me Bob Wills was a Big
Band leader and had nothing to do with Western Swing!fotunately we were
sitting across from each other at a church supper and I took that into
consideration!
Ok to maintain my reputation of interesting websites, here is one that
is pretty fascinating as the author actually got to meet and interview
Speedy West at Hank Penney's house back in 1987.Once you read thru this
site go to the bottom of the webpage and select other artist's as there
is indeed a treasure trove of other artists there beyond:
