It often astounds me that I can be researching some other area of
history and yet it seems I somehow manage to run across items related
to either early Country or Western Swing. In this case I was assisting
an officer who had to give a historical brief on the Bazooka-the
shoulder fired
anti-tank weapon that was used to good effect during WWII and saw some
use in Korea.
Come to find out this weapon got it's name from its resemblence to the
instrument one Bob"Bazooka" Burns ,a comedian and musician, who invented
his Bazooka while working in a plumbing shop.Burns and his invention
were so popular at the outbreak of WWII that the name stuck to the anti-
tank weapon. Here is the link to the Bio on Burns and his invention:

Now the other bonus to these researches is the fact that I discovered a
Western Swing group that truthfully I had never heard of before and the
discovery was made due to the fact that they featured a bazooka(the
musical type) on one of their recordings-Here is the info on Bob Skyles
and His Skyrockets,be sure and sroll down to hear 'My Arkansas bazooka
Gal" to get an idea of what this singular instrument sounded like.
