Hello All,
I finally got a weekend off and was able to tune in over the net and
was delighted to hear Allen Bailey doing his show on air @
www.hppr.org.The show certainly lives up to its name -Western Swing
And Other Things as you not only hear plenty of Western Swing with the
likes of Milton Brown,Bob Wills etc, but as well plenty of the other
classic artists.I gave Allen a call on the 1-800 number and he was
kind enough to dedicate
a Hank Williams Sr. song (one of my favorites) "Long Gone Lonesome
Blues".This being but one example of of the Other Things" within the
play list.
Allen has that quality too rarely found in Radio these days.that
quality of seeming to come into the listener's home and paying a
visit.During this visit,Allen is able to tell his hosts quite a bit of
insight about the artist and his songs. One example early in the show
was the story behind Milton Brown, who until his untimely death in an
auto accident in 1936 was often considered the father of Western
Swing, even overshadowing Bob Wills in those formative years of WS.
I assure you this type of show which packs a lot of wonderful
information and music in a well formatted bundle is a real diamond
among the stones in this age of demographic consultant driven
programming found on so many other stations.
