Torrent, Dime-A-Dozen, unscrupulous bloggers and many others, everybody kills
indy label sales. But the worst killer is de facto Amazon.com who allow other
people to sell our cds starting from the day of the official release of the
album for much much much cheaper price, via so-called "Amazon Market Place"
program. Idem for ebay. Due to Amazon Market Place cheap prices of used and very
often brand new cds (offered below wholesale/distribution price), exports of
independent music from the USA to Europe and Japan has declined a lot in past
4-5 years. The trend was very alive when dollar was very low.

Leonardo's post is so sad and true. Although Torrents and the likes have been a nail in the coffin of Creative musicians who at very least deserve to make a...
... I'm surprised to hear this. When I from time to time search something and check the several Amazon(s), I often find very high prices but very seldom cheap...
... Sometimes I found cheap ones in the so called Amazon Market Place, but they were always used CDs, although sometimes in perfect condition. ... I don't...
... If you live in France this is true. I think almost all music in France in very much overpriced. Sometimes the shops at Gemm (and similar marketplaces) have...
I'm not an expert in marketing tricks but there's something I don't get here. If someone offers on Amazon below the wholesale price, they may have received a...
I think the problem seems to be, wherever these early copies come from, they are duplicated and sold straight away at reduced price. If releases were available...
... The artists / fans should pressure Amazon not to sell (even if indirectly) bootlegs and other illegal copies. Amazon is sensitive to copyright suits--they...
... Comparing the industry now to the '70s is a fundamentally flawed argument, no disrespect intended. There was no internet, no digital reproduction (and yet...
I was by no way comparing this present time to the 70's...there is no comparison. Experimental bands were allowed to flourish without the insane rules and...

Are you saying that Amazon market place is filled with illegally copied new releases? I've used it a good few times and never been sent a pirated copy. Are...
... I've never seen an illegal pirate copy of an album on Amazon Marketplace. However, an issue there, as I understand it, is that people may buy an album,...
... OK, so someone buys a CD for the going price, copies it for him/herself then sells the original at a big loss (below trade prices). I can understand then...
In yet another firsthand account, I've experienced a number of people (often friends and acquaintances) extolling the virtues of my album to me, and wondered:...
... There is also an argument that a thriving second-hand market keeps first-hand prices high, because people are willing to pay more for a first-hand item...
... Ah, I think you're describing the situation where people purchase an album, rip it to iTunes, and resell the CD on Amazon Marketplace. Indeed, that's going...
I'm note sure that experimental bands were allowed to flourish more in the 70's. What is more to the point is that that type of music was more mainstreamed...

Amazon Market Place does not sell illegal copies. It might happen in very rare occasions, but 99.99% of the cds sold out there, are "legally" sold. 100% of the...

Well thought out Leonardo. A set retail price for all sellers to honour, for 6 months. This would weed out possibly all greedy parties. Maybe also have radio...
what did talented musicians do during the 40,000 odd years before the record industry began in the 1920's/30's? And can it really be that the day record...
