What's up,
Sorry guys, I don't post on here that often, but I guess I should this
time. Raleigh was frickin' spectacular. It was just a shame his band
wasn't there. Oh well, he's one of the few guys I know of that can silence a
packed club with just his guitar (except for the noisy assholes in the
corner, but he basically told them to fuck off. The crowd dug that a lot.)
Me and my buddy Rich drove up from Charlotte Thursday night. We got to
the show around 10:30 or so, and had a few drinks. I ran into some old
friends from town there as well. Ryan got up there, and did a great show.
Good acoustic rendition of "To be Young". I liked "my sweet Valentine" and
"Hey there, Ms. Lovely" as well. He was exceptionally sharp with the banter
as well. He was telling some story about a guy who had a song about "she's
in love with my tractor" or something, and I was drinking my beer, and well,
I gave everyone around me an Amstel Light shower (sorry to anyone who
witnessed that. I was the guy in the crazy "weekly World News" shirt. The
killer fur coat.) I loved his oasis plug as well. We ran into Caitlyn as
well. We had just seen her and Mike and Skillet at the Double Door last
Thursday and she recognized Rich, which was cool (We had talked to her and
Mike at the show last week, and she even did a little sidestage acoustic
"Matrimony". It was really cool. She rocks.)
Anyway, after the show, Rich picked up a copy of the CD from Van, and
we decided that we did not come all the way from Charlotte not to stop and
pay tribute to the Comet (they make great Gin and Tonics by the way). We say
down at the bar, and they were out of PBR (curses!). Rich and I are just
sittin' and drinkin, when who should shimmy up to the bar right beside us,
but none other than the imitible Mr. Adams. I was pretty buzzed, and the
fact that I was sitting right next to one of my heroes kind of made me a bit
dumb. Rich got a pen from the bartender and went over to him and asked him
to sign the cd jacket. He was really cool about it, despite the fact that
some of his buds were there, he took a few minutes to yak with some fan. So
we stayed there a little longer, and just kind of hung out around him (I
know, what a groupie thing to say). He was drinking some vodka n' stuff,
and yuking it up with people about the record, Nashville, Biggie Smalls (had
to be there) and assorted things. We were pissed that we had to leave,
because otherwise we would have shamelessly followed the man to the ends of
the dirtiest dives in town. So we drove back later that evening and pulled
into Charlotte just as the sun came up. What a day!
In short, get the word out: Ryan, please come to Charlotte! The Double
Door Inn is calling your name!
later on Guys,

Marc Schanz

P.S.- By the way, my day job is the A&E Editor of the School rag at the
University of NC at Charlotte. Any good stuff that needs publicity, send my
way!
