Widespread Panic's "Don't Tell The Band" Coming June 19

On June 19 Sanctuary Records will release Widespread Panic's
new album, Don't Tell The Band. The 12 new recordings (11 original
songs and a cover of fIREHOSE's "Sometimes") on this, their first
studio recording since 1999's 'Til The Medicine Takes, continue to
showcase the band's talent for vivid lyrical storytelling. From the
hard-rock swagger of tunes like "Give" and "Action Man," to the
haunting ballad "This Part Of Town" and the album's lively title
track, Widespread Panic's stylistic range is more diverse than ever.
Don't Tell The Band was recorded at longtime producer John
Keane's studio in Athens, Georgia. The band also enlisted engineer
Doug Trantow (Tracy Chapman, Sugar Ray, Limp Bizkit) to help
their music rock, glide and swing on record as much as it does in
concert. Saxman Randall Bramblett (Steve Winwood) came by to
lend his talents to Panic's rendition of "Sometimes." See reverse
for a complete track list.

Widespread Panic's songwriting skills and poignant lyricism have
never been more visible than on Don't Tell The Band. The imagery
evoked in the album's title track ranges from Confederate army
bands playing as the bullets flew, to the tuxedoed string players on
the Titanic who performed even as the ship went down. "Don't Tell
The Band" is a paean to the triumph music in the face of great
adversity, culminating in the last line of the song's chorus: "Just let
the music play." Says singer/guitarist John Bell, "This is probably
one of the most well-rounded albums we've made, with everybody
having equal input in the songwriting. Truly, we all write the songs.
Everybody's encouraged to go ahead and come up with anything
that is sparking them creatively."

The initial run of Don't Tell The Band will also include a special
value-added CD. This second disc will feature 30 minutes of a live
Widespread Panic concert, recorded last year in Athens. The band
normally allows fans to record its performances, but did not allow
tapers at this hometown gig. "This was the only occasion we
asked the kids not to tape so we could have exclusive music," Bell
explains. "Fortunately, they were very respectful of that."
