Hello Arvid,
No need to apologize, we're human and all make errors in judgment at some point
in time. I am sorry that I wasn't able to find more info on the model for you,
but this happens a lot with models made for one or two years as sometimes they
don't even make it into the catalogs.
Enjoy!

The direct coupled bridge is definitely a major breakthrough and improves the
sound. I have a YW600 with coral rosewood back/sides and a solid spruce top.Â
It has an awesome sound and would rival any Martin or Taylor that I have played
or heard. The Yairi's are the best kept secret out there, buy as many as you
can now while the prices are still reasonable because once these guitars are
truly discovered, they prices will no longer be as reasonable and the older ones
will be hard to come by.
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Well, not sure how to answer all your questions other than to ramble a little
bit. I have played a WY1 and it sounds much better plugged in than not. I
owned a 1978 DY95, probably the best guitar I ever had in my stable. I have an
Alvarez MD90C with a direct coupled bridge and it sounds awesome, but not as
awesome as my 1975 YW600 with coral rosewood back and sides. I have found the
older Yairi's have a very special tonal quality, they ring out longer, are
fuller and really project.
My YW600 is my favorite guitar and I will probably never part with it.
Unforunately I parted ways with my DY95 as it was removed from my possession by
unscrupulous means.
The Yairi's are undoubtedly the best kept secret out there. Once they get
discovered, the prices will rival the Martins and Taylors. I think the yairi's
sound every bit as good as both if not better. In my humble opinion, of course.
I agree, the WY1 is great plugged in, but not so great unplugged. I have a 1975
YW600 with solid spruce top and coral rosedwood back and sides. It is the
finest sounding guitar in my stable. The older Yairi's are the sweetest (IMHO)
and rival the sound of martins and taylors. My Alvarez MD90C with the direct
coupled bridge is a very good sounding guitar, but not as nice as the '75 YW600.
Buy as many Yairis as you can now before they get discovered.

is a 12 string.. but, fits your requirement for Rosewood back and sides. The
WY1 is a Folk/cutaway with the Ebony/DCB. DY84 is a Slope Shoulder Dreadnought
also with Rosewood back and sides and Ebony/DCB.

So I am hoping you experts out there can give me feedback. I am partial to
rosewood, so am looking at the WY1, DY 76 and DY 84. I have a friend with an old
76 and it is a great guitar. The 76 and 84 are both dreadnaughts, but the WY1
lookos like a Concert, like my L model Larrivee, or possibly a slope shoulder
dread. Does that sound about right? Also, the 76 is the single piece bridge,
like the Martins I think it was intended to emulate. The others are the direct
coupled bridge. Any words of wisdom on one bridge type vs the other? All three
are laminate sides and back, I believe. Is that right? So, potentially very
siimilar guitars in all other ways. All ebony fingerboards, another preference
of mine. Do the necks and fingerboards feel similar on all three models? From
your experiences, do you have recommendations one way or another about either of
these three guitars? As a point of reference, I was in a guitar shop in NY
Saturday and played a DYM95 - Solid Rosewood. KNocked my socks off. GOrgeous
sound, smooth to the playing touch. If any/all of the three guitars play
anything close to that, I would be a happy man.

Thanks. That is very helpful. I'll probably pass on the WYI for the lack of
oomph. The DY76 12 on ebay is not one I am interested in, but I have seen others
go by. And as I said, my friend's, built in 1977, I think, is a wonderful
guitar. I also did not catch the slope shoulder shape on the 84, though as I
look at it now, it is pretty obvious.
Thanks. I have signed up for the other group and will enjoy looking at your

I concur about the WY1, I've played it, no oomph, but plugged in it's awesome.
Look for an older Yairi, 25 years or older. I have a '75 YW600, the sound,
tonality, sustain, warmth and feel is simply hard to compete with. Buy as many
of them as you can before the world discovers how awesome the Yairi guitars are
and the price skyrockets

Thanks. I have signed up for the other group and will enjoy looking at your
database.

The WY1 has a solid Cedar top, the others are solid Spruce~ so there's a
difference right there. The WY1 is a great guitar if you want to play amplified,
but lacks oomph when played unplugged. And, of course the older DY76 is a 12
string.. but, fits your requirement for Rosewood back and sides. The WY1 is a
Folk/cutaway with the Ebony/DCB. DY84 is a Slope Shoulder Dreadnought also with
Rosewood back and sides and Ebony/DCB.
Other members may have input on this~ and you might want to check this link to
a database I'm putting together on Alvarez Yairi, K. Yairi and Alvarez models...
most are current, but I'm slowly adding in older models with as much info as I
can find on them.

Subject: [yairiguitars] WY1 vs DY84 vs DY76
Hi All,
I have been looking at Yairis online - ebay, craigslist, etc - and considering
a purchase. I have not had the opportunity to play too many of them, but the
ones I have ever played have done nothing but stunned me, solids and laminates
alike. I just wish I could play the models I have been seeing online. So I am
hoping you experts out there can give me feedback. I am partial to rosewood, so
am looking at the WY1, DY 76 and DY 84. I have a friend with an old 76 and it is
a great guitar. The 76 and 84 are both dreadnaughts, but the WY1 lookos like a
Concert, like my L model Larrivee, or possibly a slope shoulder dread. Does that
sound about right? Also, the 76 is the single piece bridge, like the Martins I
think it was intended to emulate. The others are the direct coupled bridge. Any
words of wisdom on one bridge type vs the other? All three are laminate sides
and back, I believe. Is that right? So, potentially very siimilar guitars in all
other ways. All ebony fingerboards, another preference of mine. Do the necks and
fingerboards feel similar on all three models? From your experiences, do you
have recommendations one way or another about either of these three guitars? As
a point of reference, I was in a guitar shop in NY Saturday and played a DYM95 -
Solid Rosewood. KNocked my socks off. GOrgeous sound, smooth to the playing
touch. If any/all of the three guitars play anything close to that, I would be a
happy man.
Thanks so much
Jonas
