Hi Guys,

I've just bought one to replace (tentitively!) my Mackie Onyx 1220, which I use on my Mac (with Logic)...

First thing I noticed was that the n12 wasn't "plug and play" the way the Mackie Onyx was. It didn't show up in the "sound" control panel until I loaded a special application called "M-Lan connection manager"...
This was a bit of a surprise as I had expected it would be recognized as a core audio device without any tweaking or drivers.

I'm having a problem where Logic is not receiving or sending ANY MIDI over my old M-Audio Midisport 4x4 while the Yamaha n12 is running. I still need to use the Midisport 'cos I have several MIDI devices (and obviously the n12 only has one MIDI in and one out).

Has anyone had similar experiences to this? Is there a way to keep using my Midisport alongside the n12? (When I switch back to the Mackie Onyx to test, everything is fine...)

On this whole subject, I would LOVE some feedback from anyone using an n12. Is it a bit unstable? Is having to use this "connection manager" thing annoying?
I am already finding it quite irritating that the n12 isn't usually recognized when I start the Mac, and I have to cycle it on and off to get it to show up....

Perhaps the Onyx is a better way to go after all, even though it's a bit simpler?

Sorry to ask another question so soon, but I'm having a bit of a struggle with
my n12 and connection with my Mac...

The n12 often isn't showing up in the "sounds" control panel, or in Logic.
Sometimes I start the Mac and THEN power up the n12, other times I power up the
n12 first, then start my Mac.

Either way, it seems to be a case of pure luck as to whether the n12 shows up,
and probably 8 times out of 10, it isn't appearing...

I have a few questions... first, the n12 I am using is about a year old (it was
used). It came with some "AI drivers" and uses a connection manager to connect.
Are there any new drivers? I have read there is a new "Steinberg Yamaha FW
driver" that may work better - have people had experience with this? Does it
actually help?

My main concerns at the moment are that it's so frustrating that the n12 is not
recognized most of the time (whereas my old Mackie ONYX 1220 showed up every
time without fail in the Mac - and it didn't even need special drivers!!)...

I'm also having a problem where my 4-port MIDI interface won't work when the n12
is chosen as the audio interface - meaning I can't use my MIDI devices all at
once with the n12!

I'd love some feedback on the new drivers - are they a lot better and more
stable?

Can I daisy-chain 2 n-12 mixers with latest firmware update and Cubase 5 or this
is possible only with old mLAN drivers and firmware?

So,you are saying N12 is not a Digital mixer ?
as far as i know digital mixer means a combination of mixer,audio interface,midi
interface and controle surface.

DA/AD Convertion-
	 N12 use a 'dual bit delta-sigma convertion process'  its a method of
oversampling the original sound with almost no noise shape because in this
convertion procedure noise cut their selves.

	 01V96 use a 'linear oversampling process' its a method in which some white
noise get applied to original sound during resampling.
	 And theres not much difference when it comes to DA/AD convertion dynamics.


Pre Amp-
	 N12's preamp circuit is 'Discrete CLASS A' which means that sound remains as
one and unsplit throughout the whole process of "Input to Output" and also it
use 'Inverted Darlington Circuitry Amplifier' which means an amplifier with a
function for switching on and off its output signal. A circuit which boost the
sound but at the very same it works on it like a 'noise gate'.

	 i don't know which preamp technology is being used in 01V96 (they not even
mentioned in manual), but its definatly not better then N12's preamp.


Hum & Noise-
	 Their 'equivalent input noise' is same –128 dB, but there is 9dB difference in
'residual output noise' which means 01V96 is going to produce a lil bit hissy
sound through its stereo output.

I am planning to buy Yamaha N12 which fits for my requirements.
But i've few questions,

  1. Will it be controllable and functoinal with FL Studio 8?

i did some research on that to figuer it out and it left me with some more
questions, N12 uses 'mackie control' settings to work in any other DAW.('mackie
control' setting is actually avalible in FL's controller settings menu)

  2. so does that mean, by only choosing -mackie controle setting- mixer can
become fully functional?
     including transport controls and channel controllers(sliders/faders, knobs).

New to the forum.  Just wanted to know if the preamps, dynamics, effects and

I opened the demo project in Cubase AI. No sound, non of the VU-meters are even
moving. However, the 5 transport buttons works but non of the other buttons in
the Daw remote Control section are lit.

Gear:
Dell Latitude D820
TI-based PCMCIA FW adapter
Win XP (32-bit) sp3

Any ideas?

my N8 has arrived. I will try it out tonight.

As I understand, if you decide to upgrade the N8 firmware to the latest version
it will not support mLan ever again (there is no way to undo this). Questions:

1. Wich is the latest firmvare version with mLan-support?

2. How can I find out wich firmware that is installed i my N8.

3. Will there ever be a mLan16e2 (i.e. with support for the mLan successor) for
Motif ES?

I'm a MIDI noob so be patient/confoosed

I've hooked up my Alesis keyboard and it's sending data and I can record data,
but I have no playback. Any of you guys using MIDI? How do you hear your
playback? The setup was easy in Cubase because it recognized my keyboard.

Also, the GPB file is a weird extension.  My GPB does not recognize
.mlx and instead is looking for a file of type .ymp or .ymt

I'll replace it when I get to work in a few hours
