Has anyone on the message board done this? Does it at least
work with the Buttons like it does with Cubase AI... play, stop,
record, rewind?

I didn't see this part of the message due to my tiredness. I will
check that tomorrow. I will post this in gearslutz when we get a
solution. I am trying to contact as many sonar users as I can.
Thanks again.

We tackle this tomorrow THANKS!
But also post this at the gearslutz thread because there are a couple Sonar users over there.
Getting late for me so I will have to get back to you later tomorrow.
Do you see the ASIO mLAN drivers in Sonar? Give me all the info you can and we can got from there.
Under Options\Control
surfaces....set your control surface to Mackie. At that same window your In Port should say mLAN MIDI in, and your out Port you should see mLAN MIDI Out.

I take it you have downloaded the latest version of all the software? When you say does not recognise do you mean your pc does not even try to run the new hardware wizard? Are you sure your firewire port is working on the pc? You don't mention what the firewire is.

Hi! I really need some help from this group. I just bought two Yamaha
mixers (N8 & N12)and can't make my computers recognise them. Maybe, the
problem is my OS (Windows XP Professional 64 Bits). So, my question is:
Is it possible, to make these Yamaha mixers work on 64 bits??? Thank
you very much, for any help. Sorry about my poor english.
You could reset the n12 but before doing that you might want to check at the Gearslutz forum or send Geosync a PM from there.
1: with the n12 disconnected and powered off 2:(In the Control Room section) Hold down the MUTE, ST and 2TR buttons while turning on power 3: Keep holding them until the meter LED come on. 4: wait while you see activity on various LEDs.

Hi
Im having a weird problem. The Transport section of the N12 is sending out note info to Cubase. If I start the song with the keyboard och mouse then the Transport on the N12 responds. But if I use the N12 Remote, all I hear is a note playing on the selected channel.
I reinstalled the MLan driver and that fixed the problem but it reoccurred after I had left the computer in hybernation state over night.
I assume that the N12 Remote has somehow been set as a Midi input rather than a Remote, but how do I change that back without having to reinstall MLan (which seems to be working).

I just joined the group and I'm quite new to recording, so bear with me... I received my N12 a couple of days ago. It installed on XP without hassle and the sound is great.
Transport control works like a charm but I thought that the faders on the N12 would send data to the Cubase AI mixer. Is there any way of achieving
this, or do I have to buy a control surface as well ?
No the faders do not send data to Cubase. There are people using control surfaces. You might post something about that over here http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/133358-yamaha-n-series.html
this is a very active thread.
Take care

It all depends on what you want from it. The n12 is definately professional and sounds really good. vst plugins are within cubase and not part of the desk. Cubase AI comes with the n12 and is quite goos although limiting compared to the full cubase version. I use AI on my laptop as I don't like removing my dongle from my main system.
What I would be carefull about is getting the right laptop to work with the n12. If the desk is going to remane stationary I would go for a desktop. My laptop does work ok with the desk but not as well as my desktop.
One thing to remember about firewire mixers is that they tend to have problems while the wireless is turned on. In fact while almost anything is turned on.
Works very well for me though.
Hope this helps.

Something isn't right my system. The thing that still confuses me is that Cubase is the only application that has this CPU issue.

Hi there i have an n8 myself and it is proving to be an absolute mare to talk to either the laptop g4 with 1 gig of ram or the standalone g5.
Is there a demo film available to show what i have obviously missed in setting up the firewire. ( I have tried all possiibilities believe you me. I feel like selling it right now !!.

Hi there i have an n8 myself and it is proving to be an absolute mare to talk to
either the
laptop g4 with 1 gig of ram or the standalone g5.
Is there a demo film available to show what i have obviously missed in setting
up the
firewire. ( I have tried all possiibilities believe you me. I feel like selling
it right now !!.

I have noticed heavy CPU usage when running Cubase (I'm now running
Cubase Studio 4) but I hadn't really paid much attention to it because
I've been mixing OTB and have only ran a few plugs here and there.
Anyhow I decided to try out Amplitube amp model plug and it basically
will not run. It slows my PC down to an extreme crawl..making it
useless. I was thinking it was a problem with Amplitube but I loaded
it up in Sonar 5 and it works fine and does not slow my PC down that I
can at least notice.
So I decided to check the Windows CPU usage tool and Cubase even
without a project loaded is running at 50-60% and when I load (small
project) a project it goes up to over 80%. I basically cannot run
Amplitube in Cubase with this CPU hit. In Sonar the CPU is running
around 20% with a project loaded and no problem running Amplitube.
My PC is not too fast but it has not given me any problems and I can
run quite a few plugs in Sonar and mixing OTB with Cubase and N12 I
haven't really had a problem until now. It's a P4 2.2 ghz with 1 GB RAM.
I've got a screen shot doc of this too in the groups file section.
Can any of you check your Windows CPU usage and see if you get the
same thing?
Do you any of you MAC users see heavy CPU usage?
Thanks guys!
The way I'm currently implementing hardware effects
during mixing is as follows: (using Ableton Live and
N12)
1.set up external effect plugin
2.Send audio to be processed to aux outs(15/16)
3.patch in effects, route to input channel
4.adjust to taste
This way is nice because I can control and automate
the wet/dry balance. The drawback is that I can only
have one stereo track or two mono tracks assigned to
different effects at a time. Alternately, I can
process individual tracks, then print them to another
track, or simply record with effects. With the
latter, I'm stuck with what I did, and with the
former, it can be very uninspiring and time consuming.
I thought it would be great to get an 8 channel insert
snake to allow myself more external processing, but I
noticed that the manual says that when using hardware
mix, the signal is sent to the N12 after the A/D
converters. So it would appear that I cannot use the
channel inserts to give myself more channels of
external processing. Is this correct, and is there a
better way to go about this than my current methods?
Thanks for any helpful hints you all may have.
-Mike

Don't know of any others (at least in this price range) that have 16 firewire outs either...
As for whether it will be exactly the right product for my needs...I guess I'll have to wait and see (I've only had it 2 days!)...but it certainly looks and sounds promising...

Hey Mark, thanks for the heads up on the wireless issue. As for why I would buy an N12 if I'm not using Cubase...well, I think the combination of a well-engineered desk, very nice mic pre-amps, and a built-in 16in/16out firewire interface had something to do with it! Simply put, there isn't any other product like this in the marketplace that I know of...

That is a general rule with any Firewire audio device. Wireless and
Firewire audio don't play well together....

#1 It sounds better :)
#2 A high-end monitoring system not found on ANYTHING in the n12
price range
#3 In terms of routing, you can still do all the things you can do
with any other A/D and D/A and more. What Cubase gives you is ease of
use and integration not found with other hardware or software. and the
WONDERFUL "WET" button :)
Don't forget, Cubase AI is included and you can use it like a
stand-alone VST that talks to the n12 and lets you use any DAW .
Anyone who has used a 8/16/24 Track Tape machine will appreciate
recording all DAW tracks as "Stems". That way you can move freely
about the digital world ;-)

stienberg and this is a really good way to get people to buy in. You

Don't forget, Yamaha loves all software and Steinberg loves all
hardware. ;-) But as you can see, with the new products, there is
real advantages to using them together.. (I'll get off my marketing
soapbox now)
