RE: [zarzuela] About to see a different Barberillo in Madrid

I guess you will be very disapointed with The
Barberillo. Is a piece of S...It dosent worth the
money you pay for it. Innovation are always
wellcome, but this time it gets to be almost a
porno show.
This productios has lost the charming of the
Madrid of king Carlos III.

Dont waist your time, go to lavapies and enjoy one
of the restaurans on that part of Madrid, the
streets, the people; and dont get horryble
impresion you will see of Madrid in the stage of
the theater of la Zarzuela. ( beatifull theater on
the other way)

Hi Everyone,
On the second leg of an extremely short European
trip I´m
about to see the Madrid ¨Barberillo de Lavapies¨ at
the Teatro
de la Zarzuela tonight.
London was amazing as always (if far more
expensive!)
and I´d reccommend such current attractions as the
Gothic Nightmares
exhibit at the Tate Britain for its wonderful Fuseli
and Blake
masterpieces, among others. (I can´t resist mentioning
art since in
another part of my life I´m an art history professor.)
And theatre
was fascinating, since we were able, by ordering tix
on the Internet
previously, to see a lively Guys and Dolls and Sir Ian
McKellan in
Mark Ravenhill´s fascinating and provocative new play
The Cut at the
Donmar Warehouse.
Luckily in Madrid we´re near the Calle Jovellanos
since the hotel
is the lovely Villa Real, around the corner from the
Thyssen
Collecion.
And thanks to á huge annotated list culled from
Chris´
reccommended recordings, and Ignacio´s list of places
to buy
zarzuela CDs, I bought 40 new zarzuelas yesterday!
Including things
impossible to get via the Internet in the US, like
Barbieri´s Pan y
Toros.
Of course most exciting of all will be the
Barberillo tonight. I
hope to post critical comments on the performance
after my return to
Philadelphia at the end of this week.
Buenas dias de Madrid, Dan Evans
