I have also been in love with "Dialects" since day one! The rhythm drive is
unbelievably strong and then there is this wonderful ballad - Peace -
grabbing me directly in the stomach and at the end bringing tears on my
face! I heard it again just after Joe's departure and it was surreal, like
if telling me from somewhere that everything was fine and I shouldn't worry.
This album is so strong that the next one never quite made it 100% and if
I'm today coming back to this period, then I always end pulling out
Dialects!! Lost Tribe disappointed me at its release but all the following
albums (except maybe the one with Salif Keita, imo overproduced) started a
new creative period which seemed never ending but with the death of our man
:(

Hello all,

Well, I'm still missing maestro Zawinul and in an attempt to fill the
void left by his hugely sad passing I've been listening once again, and
discovering hidden delights in them, to Joe's first two Syndicate
albums The Immigrants and Black Water. What a wonderful listen they are
proving to be as well, it's great to hear some of those tremendous
tunes once again, 'King Hip' with it's simmering groove, the
restless 'The Devil Never Sleeps' - years ahead of it's time by the
way, and of course the groovy 'In The Same Boat' with it's memorable
vocal and danceable time signature - Zawinul always knew how to waltz!

The Dialects album will always be my favourite Zawinul record overall,
but I'm pleased to discover these two albums all over again. I look
forward now to rediscovering Lost Tribes. Just great, great music. We
may never see his like again.

Regards to everyone.
